I had someone tell me what a beautiful Thunderbird I had. I guess he saw "bird" in the name and let his imagination take over from there.
And of course way too many Camaro comments to mention.

I had a lady tell a youngster that my 71 Trans Am was a Camaro, common right? Here's the kicker... When I politely corrected her she started to argue with me and persisted. After showing her the decals and the "Pontiac" emblem front and rear she still didn't believe me. At that point I figured, ok let it be a Camaro...

Not mistaken, but simply not identified. Have been asked quite a bit what make of car my '67 GTO is......since it doesn't say "Pontiac" anywhere on the car but the steering wheel center cap.

Not unusual nor unexpected from non-car people.
They had one exactly like it, except theirs was red and not a convertble.

I love when they try to correct you. My 63 GP is usually a GTO and that's OK. Recently a guy walked up to me in my 60 F100 and asked me if it's a "Cameo" -not the first time but when I said "no" he asked me "Are you sure" with a wise ass look on his face. I was smiling and trying to be polite then stating that the Cameo was a GM truck. As he walked away I heard him say it again under his breath "It's a CAMEO!"

I actually don't recall anyone ever misidentifying my car. They may ask what it is,, or what year, but don't call it by another name.

I don't know (or care) what a lot of late model look alike cars are, but I can always identify them because I read the name off of it.

My wife has a Lady she cleans her House attached "apartment", and this lady loves my wife's Pontiac Solstice. She leases a Ford Fusion, and her lease is coming up, and she wants to lease a Solstice. She asked my wife what it was one day, and my Wife told her it was a Solstice. Months later, she says she has not seen one at new car dealers she "drives through" . My wife then told her it is a Pontiac, and there are No more Pontiac dealers. She was NOT happy and couldn't understand why. Now she wants a red drop top Mustang , but Likes the Pontiac better. Needless to say, only about 15 were sold in this state when new and you do not see many at all, probably because like ours, they are a storage shelf in the garage for 7 months of the year.

Last summer, I had my black '71 GTO w. the Judge wing on it parked in a shopping center lot. As I got to the car, some dude pulls in and says "OMG, is that's the car Dom drove in "The Fast and the Furious"!!!" I just smiled and said "Yep, does wheelies too!"
The guy jumps out of the car and starts taking pics with his phone saying "I gotta get some pics to show my GF." I told him "Go stand by the car and I'll take your pic but you have to roll the Tshirt sleeves up to show off your guns like Dom!" He did and I took a couple pics of him. He was just lovin' the car so why burst his bubble? |

My 75 Grandville conv. has been called a Cadillac a lot of times. It says Grandville on it but the word Pontiac is very small so they don't see it.

My red 1962 Pontiac LeMans is still running the factory slant 4 and automatic transaxle. The white one is running a 61 389 Tri-Power. Both cars have been called: Thunderbird, Rambler, Corvair, Skylark, and Olds. The best one's complement me for keeping the slant 6 in the car. OH yea, I also get the it's a big block. I have a friend who made up a sign that says "Options on this car. Big block 4 cylinder."

A friends dad had his '69 Torino GT at show once and had a guy arguing with him that he ruined a good GTO by taking the "O"s out of the emblems.
