Thanks for the info. Yea, I am really looking forward to finally getting it onto the track this year. My fuel system upgrade is finally happening this week.
Anyway, when I first got the car I started a thread on how to launch a stick car on the track. It took off (the thread, not the car )http://forums.maxperformanceinc.com/...ghlight=launch I guess I'll try to walk it out as you said initially. It may be slower (or not!), but it sure will save the parts. As for the shift point conversation, that's fun stuff, but as most have said, it will make much less of an impact than launching a stick. And with my flat power curves, I don't expect much difference in times with slightly different shift points anyway, but it's a very good learning conversation; fun too. Now I gotta find a day that works, rent a trailer (and maybe a tow vehicle too if my Jeep can't handle it), line up my friends who have been eager to go too, and hope we get more than a few runs. My last time at the track was SO much fun! Here's my recap video of that fateful day: http://vid300.photobucket.com/albums...nlongvideo.mp4

I would not use slicks, (unless it is a race car) if you do, you will find the Weak Link in your drivetrain. I dont like breaking parts, they cost too much.

No slicks for me. I do have an extra set of Nitto drag radials on lightweight Weld Wheels that I plan to put on. I thought I read somewhere that somewhat worn drag radials will hook better at the track than newer ones.

Nittos are the slickest of drag radials new or old compared to other drag radials. I never could 60 foot as well on those.
Ultimately to find the true potential of the car, 60 footing is half the battle, and you'll be at risk to break something if you really want to find out. |

Yea, but at 275/50R15, I seem to have only 2 choices: Nitto and Hoosier. But the latter tire has this footnote, which scares me for my street car:
"Hoosier D.O.T. drag radials are designed and approved for D.O.T. class racing only. They are not approved, nor recommended for any kind of street use." I suppose I could change the size a bit if I was to buy a dedicated tire. a 275/60R15 fits, but that may hurt my launch a bit too given that I've got a mismatch M21 and 3.42 rear. I really felt the difference when I had the taller tire under there. oh wait, if I wanted a dedicated tire, I could go with the Hoosier! doh! But I'm getting ahead of myself. I'll get to the track and see what happens with what I have.

M/T makes a DOT approved drag radial in the 275/50-15 size you seek. 26.4" tall.

Just curious Adam, what is your rear axle and suspension setup? Knowing this might help experts here (not me) to judge how much risk there is.
I proved the hard way, twice, that the stock suspension and rear in my 67 FB were not up to a hard launch at the track with the engine that I put in that car. And that was on DOT (Pro-track) tires. A long time ago now but I can still hear the big bangs on the "non-launches.".

After my friend, who originally built this car, blew up the rear trying to qualify to get on an episode of Pinks, he rebuilt the rear using Timken racing axles, 3.42 Motive gears in an Eaton posi. There's a McLeod Racing Clutch 75221-Super Street Pro and a Lakewood scatter shield. The driveshaft (custom built I think but am not sure) has two safety loops.
The springs are Eibach all the way around with KYB gas shocks. Front sway bar only and stock control arms.

The fact is that if your bracket racing on the serious side you should use less of what your motor has, not just for greater engine life but to be able to make up for what may have started off as a bad pass or having to back out of it due to traction.

I'm not planning on regularly bracket racing. Just wanna see what it can do and how well I can drive a stick at the track.
We're trying hard to get a track built locally. If that happens, who knows! But for now, just some occasional fun. Sent from my LG-D850 using Tapatalk

If you aren't going to the track for a while, have some fun on the street or backroad and work on your launch, and play with shiftpoints. The launch will be totally different on the street...but will give you lots of practice!

Looks like my smart phone wasn't do smart yesterday. I think what I was saying was that I have an app that seems pretty accurate at measuring acceleration times.
