Thanks for your kind words. I have a late friend who was owner of Roseland Pontiac (Chicago). I used to go there on Saturday's and he would tell me stories of the good old days of the auto business I would sit there for hours and drink in all the auto history. Now I guess it's my turn to pass along my car stories to a new generation so the ones who weren't there know what the "GTO Years" were like. Sadly Patti and I won't be in Pittsburgh, hopefully 2015 will be closer to Chicago.

Default Great Story!

Bill I just saw this thread and I have to say what a great story, one of my cars was originally sold at Borek Motor Sales on Western ave. (the first building)

I will have to upload some pictures, she's a '63 Catalina Nocture blue only options being 421 H.O. tri-power 4-speed 3.64 rear and 8-lugs! Built first week Dec. 1962

I only wish I could have a conversation with the person that originally ordered my car!

Bill also saw your article in the Legend and enjoyed reading it again. The only new GTO I have had the pleasure of owning is the 2006. I bought it new in Fayetteville TN. It is Phantom black with the red and black interior. All stock never have touched a thing except for the battery which I had to switch out a few months ago. I'm keeping the one that came with the car. I remember riding my spider bike up to the local Pontiac, Olds, Buick dealership when I was 13 and seeing the GTO Judge in 69. It has always been my dream car. I was to young to buy these cars when new, although I guess if I was rich I could have bought a new one (if my parents cosigned) in 72 when I was 16 and started driving. My first car was a 64 1/2 mustang. Didn't get my first GTO which was the 69 till 2005. Please keep writing and posting your pictures and stories, they bring back great memories.
Thanks!

I grew up in Blue Island and like Charles I used to ride my bike to all the dealers when the news cars came out. I still have the brochures going all the way back to 1960 that I got at those dealers. Hope I don't offend anyone but my main stop was Habich Bros Ford. I used to buy the 1/25 scale promo cars at the parts dept., still got them too. My cousin was the service manager there and when the 1962's came out I helped push their first one onto the showroom floor it was a blue Galaxie 4-door. And forget the show rooms of today theirs only held 3 cars.

Default Update 47 Years Today

In my mind I can still relive the whole experience of taking delivery so many years ago. The bad news is in the last year I misplaced all the original paperwork on my first GTO, including the cherished Window Sticker. A few months ago Patti and searched our house from top to bottom with no success. There's a good possibility the envelope got tossed with some car magazines. Still hoping it will turn up someday when I'm not even looking fot it. Fortunately the scan of the sticker is still on my computer. Window Stickers are special, after my friend Bob sold his '72 GTO a subsequent owner offered him $200 for the original sticker and he turned him down. A while back I put the VIN on that find your car website but haven't heard anything yet. Want to add some more details to the story. I was paranoid about theft so when the car was still new I went to Montgomery Wards at the Dixie Square Shopping Center and bought an "OnGuard" auto alarm. Now this alarm was nothing like what they have today. You mounted a siren in the engine compartment and then ran wiring to contacts at the doors and trunk. No pocket remote button either, you needed a key. I hid my lock behind the license plate door. I dug out my souvenir box out of the basement and took these pictures. Hope all of you don't find them too boring.

This first shot is the box from the Sears Reverb kit, I also bought my floor mats there.

Here's the remains of adding a clock to fill in the blank spot on the dash

Some pieces that came off my car. Bucket seat & carpet tags, radio delete plate, door lock knob, a scrap from the vinyl top that was in the trunk, and lastly the hardware bag from the Red Plastic Wheelwell Liners

YIPPEE !!!! Wasn't even looking for it. I was going through my files throwing out old utility bills and bank statements. Got to my old auto insurance files and there it was a file folder labeled "67 GTO #1".

Well today May 3, 2017 marks 50 years of GTO ownership for me. Since taking delivery of my new '67 GTO back then the only time I haven't owned at least one Goat was when I was in the Army.

Nicely done Bill.

Also - good news about finding the folder of stuff a couple years ago. I find that is my best technique for finding things: be looking for something else.

Congrats on your gto ownership birthday of 50 years. I have my 67 gto that I did not get new but bought in 1976...still have it after 41 years. Oh and for what it matters my actual birthday is May 3..

how cool would it be to have your original tyrol GTO turn up on this thread? my dad had a linden green '67 convertible, black int, black top, 4 speed when i was 3 y/o. my uncle later got the car from my father and he hotrod'd it during the 70s. later sold as a roller and it's long since gone. i always wonder if it's lurking out there somewhere and have come close to buying near identical cars in the past.

this is my uncle with the car probably around '71-72.

Congrats Bill!! Just re-read the whole thread again. All the pics and stories from everyone put a huge smile on my face. Since I posted to your thread I finally got my dream car, the 69 GTO Judge. Hard to believe I'm coming up on two years of ownership and over a decade since I bought my first 69 GTO. Time sure does fly by. Please keep posting your pics and stories, maybe the newer folks will chime in with theirs. Again Congratulations on being a GTO owner and fanatic for 50 years!

I retired back in 2009 but last year I took a job delivering auto parts for Factory Motor Parts for some extra cash. As luck would have it on May 3rd I had a delivery for Mike Haggerty Buick (They replaced Kole Pontiac where I bought both of my new GTO's). After the dropping the parts off I took a few minutes to relive what happened there 50 years ago. I pictured in my mind where my GTO was parked the first time I saw it on May 1st and then relived driving away with it on the 3rd.
