The program that I saw said the researchers constructed a mathematical model and estimated that he "bred" approximately 16 thousand women!!
Hard to believe that could be.

Haven't done the dna test yet, but my great grandmother traced our family tree. Been years since i've seen the book myself, but I remember it saying I was related to the last surviving passenger of the mayflower. Which would be https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mary_Allerton . From the size of her family it sounds pretty possible.

On my mothers side of the family they have traced that "Sir Thomas Masterson" and his son "sir Richard " were knights.
When my uncle was in the Air Force I was very young he would write me letters and put "sir" in front of my name because of the knight thing.

I will have to check with birth mom on the Mayflower thing. I think I remember hearing about Mayflower stuff from her, but I was overwhelmed at the time of the conversation by so many things.

I do know that her side went back to 16-1700's Massachusetts, so it is a possibility.

I have read that 1% of the planet owe their existence to Genghis Khan. Obviously the old saying "to the victor goes the spoils" speaks volumes

My wife's Grandmother was born in a teepee > we went to her funeral about 10 years ago and learned many things afterwards at the reception.
My wife is roughly 35% Ojibwa/Chippewa, 10% Cree, 20% Abenaki ( Algonquian) and 40% Kings Daughters ( New France, French Canadian).
There was a lot going on in Canada ( 1st Nation) in the 1600's and up !!

Wife has a 500 person family tree from her dad's side all the way back to 1800's Ireland. Family apparently originated as descendants of Milesius, King of Spain whose descendants were the O'Ryans, who became the Ryans. Also found many McMahons, Dugans, Cullens. Found family branches in Central Illinois and the Dakotas via Ancestry.com.

Mine is on Ancestry, they list all probable/possible matches of people that have been tested at Ancestry up to about the 5th to 8th cousins. As you can see I have 336 4th cousins or closer, but there are thousands of 5th to 8th cousins on my list. Sometimes I will just pick a 8th cousin out of the list and contact them to see what their family story is. About 85 % of the connection is from one family that came to America from England in 1634, the Winchell family.

I have also found and talked to some of my relatives living in Belgium and the Netherlands. I have not checked with any of German relatives, that's my brother's job.

I used Ancestry DNA to help two adopted friends find their birth parents. One was a piece of cake and took about 2 weeks.

Who's to say you can trust DNA reports? They can say anything, you can't prove them wrong.

I was told as a child that moms side (Irish / French Canadian) had a little Blackfoot Indian on the French Canadian side. Mom even made a homemade Indian costume for me one Halloween. I always thought well, never know, but all that sounds cool. So DNA test comes back with a little sliver of Native, so sometimes these stories have basis also maybe.
