Default Technical Service Bulletins help

Hey guys, I've given up on the search for my back ups on the scans of the TSBs I did years ago that got lost when the computer grenaded last year. So, I'm starting from scratch here to try again. I've spent a week going through my 67, 68, and 69 binders so far, cataloging the bulletins I was able to scrape together during my last attempt at this a few years ago. I did pretty well on 67 and 69 with only a few missing but my 68's are only around 2/3rds complete. I've also got a 70 and 71 to still go through just to get the list of missing numbers. Anyone out there with any of these bulletins that might be able to fill in the holes of what I'm missing and send me some scans of them? My plan here eventually is to re-scan all of these into a file we can post up on someones website. Years back a few members mailed me their binders and I scanned what was missing from them, and filled in theirs with copies of what I had they didn't and mailed them back. Sorry, I can't remember who it was but I thank you again for trusting me with the books. Sorry in advance, I know it's a pain in the ass to go through your book since these are not filed in category order, but by section and date issued. As a side note, I'll also ask that you watch on the numbers when you're checking because apparently they were human back then too and made mistakes. Here's a 68 bulletin that's numbered as if it's a 67 bulletin even though it's definitely for 68, another one on the endura problems they had in early production.

Thanks in advance for any help I can get on this!
Dennis

That 1st one is for the 1968.
The 1968 model year started in 1967.

It's too bad you didn't save them to the 'cloud' like Google drive or MS One Drive.

I saved most of the Craftsman Service News (which are a collection of the bulletins for each month)

John, I don't know if the cloud existed back then! I was doing this somewhere around 2007

yeah, I know, that first one is a 68 bulletin, but they've got it mis-identified as 67 in the id number.

the numbers decode as model year, category, sequence. so all 68 bulletins regardless of issue date start with a 68, then the category, I for informational, T for Technical, C for Campaign, W for warranty, then the next sequential number available. The dates of issue can be anywhere from start of model year, in this case 67, all the way forward a year or two while they still cared about the cars, but they'll still start with a 68. In my 68 TSB, my earliest bulletin dates started being issued 6/6/67 and the final bulletin issues on 11/7/69.

In that first bulletin I put out there, it's messed up with it starting with a 67 instead of a 68. I've also come across bulletins with wrong section numbers listed too. I can't remember which binder it was, but there was a bulletin about some premature valve guide wear in the heads and instead of it being classified in the engine section 6, they had it classed as section 10 (wheels and tires) I guess someone got thrown off by the "valve" in the valve guide and thought tire valve! (There was a penned in question mark next to that section number and the service guy figured out the right section to put it in)

The second bulletin I posted is also an aberration. Typically when they rev a bulletin it'll get a letter code suffix not the word "rev". A typical example is 68-I-41. that decodes as 1968 model year, Informational, number 41 for section 6B (Engine / Fuel) that was issued 2/5/68 then they issued a revision 68-I-41A on 5/24/68 that supersedes the original bulletin. In this case the original bulletin warns that an improperly mounted air cleaner carb gasket can interfere with the choke valve. In the revision they're telling the dealers to discard the old carb gasket instead of repositioning it and install the new version of it that has adhesive on it to hold it to the carb neck. Most books I've had my hands on, the dealer seemed to keep the original bulletin in the book even after the revision was recieved. In some cases I've seen 4 revisions of the bulletins. It was definitely a free for all when they were filing these, I've seen some pretty big messes of mixed up sections and bulletins (let alone correct model years!) I don't think this was much of a priority for the service guys back then. One of these had all kinds of math written on the back of it coming up with someone's monthly payments on a new Grand Prix!

It definitely makes for some interesting reading. 68 Tempest owners with a two speed console got a piece of 5/8 heater hose slit into a C shape and that was installed on the cross member to prevent shifter cable wear on the edge of the sharp metal. Are GTOAA judges checking for a chunk of heater hose on a Tempest show car? Would anyone think that was correct?!

I finished cataloging the other two binders. Here's a final list of what I'm missing 67-71. I haven't really heard from anyone, still looking for help on this project! Also, I didn't bother with the missing Warranty series, those are all related to the Warranty and Flat rate manual which are just costs and times. one more item, if anyone's got the SERCON sheets, I'd be interested in those too. I've got quite a few pages of those from one of the Service bulletins but they're just the changes so aren't a complete set.

Thanks,
Dennis
