The one year anniversary of dropping it off is less than a week off. The sheet metal is hung and either the door skin or the qtr (both repop) is short, leaving a terrible gap. Ready to paint IF that ever gets fixed.

I've learned a lot about reproduction sheet metal...avoid it if possible......there musta been a bunch of bad words and modifications (that they didn't televise..) on all those Overhaul'n shows that used import sheet metal...

Yet, some people will never learn. They always base their decision on price as repop panels are at least a third the price. But when you factor in the shipping and all the labor involved with making it work, some people actually have more money invested in their repop panel than they would have in an NOS panel. And they still have a flimsy repop panel. Long live the Taiwan GTO!

I can't believe it's been a year! Every time I hear about what's going on with this car, I'm so thankful for my local body shop that did their outstanding work on my car in under 2 months! (And they had to match OEM fenders to the `glass hood, which was not easy.)

Wow. I really hope you get it back soon and it's amazing.

Hey Chief, can you give me the phone number of the NOS GTO Parts Store? Next time I need sheet metal, I can just call them. I didn't realize it was that easy. I guess AMD built an entire business on non-essential sheet metal parts for the restoration industry.hobby since you find NOS sheet metal so readily available. Who knew?

Repop companies live off of the "if you build it they will come", "there is a ass for every seat" and "a fool and his money are soon parted". Believe it of not, you can find almost anything you want, just don't expect it to pop out of a smart phone. Sometimes you have to actually go out and look for it. No, it does not pop up everyday, but it does pop up. In places like Carlisle I usually see NOS fenders and quarters for pretty much every generation of GTO. I also see a fair amount of NOS and quality used sheetmetal at Norwalk. Last Norwalk there were a pair of quaters for a '64/'65, several '65 fenders, '64/'65 door skin, '67 fenders, '68/'69 quarter, several '70-'72 quarters and inner fenders for various models. And I really wasn't looking.

Sadly, I missed Carlisle and Norwalk and when my car was disabled there were no OEM (NOS or otherwise) driver rear quarter panels available that I could find. Being completely clueless on how all this works, I kept waiting on one to pop out of my cell but to this point that hasn't happened. I wish Chief had been around here then and he could have hooked me up. Life ain't fair when a guy that has so much valuable knowledge and the ability to convey that knowledge with such little effort and ease shows up on the scene after he's needed. I only wish.....
I suspect that that's the story of his life though. Hindsight is seldom anything less than 20-20.

Car gets rear quarter smashed so wait until the next Norwalk or Carlisle event rolls around and hope you find one. Shop around for another year or two looking for a "unicorn" while your car is in limbo.

Repro serves a useful purpose when there is an immediate need for a repair. You accept the limitations of the product as a compromise to expediency when collision damage is the cause for replacement. I had a Goldstar trunklid installed on my '71. Every used original '71 trunklid I looked at was worse than what I was replacing (rust forming inside the skin at the crimp) so I went repro. The shop had to adjust the arc of the lid slightly to match the filler panel installed but it was very minor. It wound up fitting better than the original.

Guys in this place can find a correct date coded crossmember bolt but cannot find NOS or at least quality rust-free sheetmetal. You have got to love it!
