One reason I keep posting my simulations is to see how close they come to actual track data.
When I ran these simulations I tried a few different PG ratios and then tries a few 3 speed ratios. From the limited number of tries the best simulation was the one I posted and that used a 1.82 1.37 1.00. Stan

Hopefully the air is better at Norwalk and we're going to put a little more counterweight on the clutch to load it harder in low gear. Eric

We run a 25% reduction in 1st gear. 4.11 rear, 60ft. average, around 1 second. I think the best is .996. Car is very heavy unfortunately for a funny car. Chassis was overbuilt some for safety, long life with lots of trailer miles and general ruggedness. We pay a little price for that. Also, the body is very heavy for the same reason. Titanium goodies and a carbon fiber body would take 200-250 lbs. off our car. Neither is in the budget.

Slight correction. Our current first gear is 1.37. We've tried several.....direct drive (wow, ate clutch disks!), the 1.25 that Mike mentioned and now 1.37. Given that we have a heavy car and 36" tires, the idea is to use a little more low gear and a little more stall spring for the initial move and then control the engine loading from there on out with clutch counterweight.
Best 60' was .992 Eric

I should have remembered that. I now have flashbacks of all the trouble I had changing the bearing on the planetary drum. It was really stuck in the LENCO case and then on the drum. Had to use a little heat to release it. Good thing everyone on the team has specific jobs.

Good point to let everybody in on. There's just too much going on with a nitro funny car for any one person to have it all in their head. Arnie is especially good at asking me questions where my answer has to be "I don't know...I'll have to ask Mike".
