Ya know I read right past that- I think I was thinking the GMCs from that era did have a V6, didn't they? Not really paying attention that his was a Chevy and would have a straight 6.

I really don't recall the V-6s coming into vogue until the early 80s. At least, with GM cars.

![]() It's obviously had a little work done to the vehicle so it may well have a later V6 installed. If he had used comma's in his description, it would make his selling points a little more clear. JMHO Ian ![]() ![]()

From Wikipedia- " The 305 V6 was GMC's standard pickup truck and Suburban engine from 1960 to 1974, and was one of the first V6 engines produced by an American company."

I suppose it's possible that the truck has a newer V6 swapped in (or even an older GMC V6) but I suspect it was just reflex to say that instead of saying straight 6. It probably doesn't apply to Craigslist but I think some auto sell websites that have auto fill entries only allow you to enter V6.
Not really related to this conversation, but I spent a summer during college back in the middle 1970s driving trucks for a local manufacturing company. One of them was a mid-1960s GMC cabover box truck, with the world's most worn out V6 engine...that thing could hardly get up to highway speed, and if there was a big hill forget it. It had about zero compression, I remember that when I turned the key off it would take seconds for the motor to finally stop spinning. We had a second cabover of the same age but it was a Chevy with a small block, and it would run rings around the Jimmy.

Someone on here in street section - was asking what might be needed to swap a Pontiac engine into a 69 GMC with V6 305. i had to wikipee it too Got the same verse as goatless posted. The rest of the explanation gets even wilder tho. 305 was the small V6 - some were huge upwards 500cid.and then one was like 2 V6's put together - V12 with 2 Intakes, 4 Heads and 4 Exhaust Manifolds |

I remember the advertisement in the magazines back then for the GMC V6 with the heads off and water coming out of every coolant hole in the decks squirting 10 or more feet high.

There's a local guy that has a 60 GMC PU w/ V6
First time I looked under the hood I wasn't sure what to make of it. Neat truck for sure.
