My recollection is that the first year for WS6
convertibles, 1997, did not receive the "17 wheels or firmer springs and shocks. At the time I believe "cowl shake" from the firmer ride was the concern. By 1998 they had addressed that through some sort of additional reinforcement and the LS1 (1998 and up) all got the 17" wheels and firmer shocks/springs regardless of body style. Therefore nothing is watered down on your model year.
