I have one of those timing covers that didn't have the timing marks on it. Previous owner bought it NOS from a warehouse.

Does anyone know a source for the bolt on timing indicator for this Pontiac timing cover?

This is for a Pontiac 400. Not the Olds 403.

Not sure on that. Deciding whether or not to just make one if it's not available.
I've been searching online and it's not an easy find.

The ram air restorations one does look nice. I'm thinking about making a flat one with some marks on it.

I believe most are integral to the cover, don’t know about pre 68 stuff though.

The cover in question is likely for the 400's with the "hub" only balancer or a 265/301. Both these engines had their own unique bolt on timing tabs...

Yup. Almost all are. This is one that was part of a 'last run' of Pontiac parts GM made at the end of the production of the 400 in 1979 for people who needed replacement parts. I also have a 400 standard block from that run. You could buy these from the warehouses. Maybe still can.

Which brings me my next question;

They used them on lowest performance /rpm engines, I believe? ‘77 up, looks like a balancer without the outer ring...small diameter, about the size of std balancer without outer ring beyond the rubber divider.
Make sense?

BTW, I have that setup from a 77 GP 400, don’t believe it wouldn’t work for you without modifying it because of the small diameter of the matching balancer.

My first assumption would be the previously mentioned "Hub" damper which was about 1/4th the size of a normal Pontiac Harmonic Damper.

Makes sense. So that means an original pointer wouldn't work with a regular diameter balancer. No sense in looking for an original pointer then. I'm thinking I'm going to get an older style cover.
