Firebird. Always liked them when I was a kid. Always wanted one. The same , but different than a camaro. What is a camaro??. A firebird is a Phoenix. That is not a screaming eagle on the hood. That is a Phoenix aka Firebird. That's why I bought one new and still have it. (Although mine is minus the hood Phoenix)

Long story short, when I was in high school 10th grade I rode the bus to school. My friends Dad worked as a salesman for our local Pontiac dealership. One day after picking her up at her bus stop, her Dad was behind the bus in a brand new 1973 Brewster green TA. Buckskin color interior, still had the window stickers. I’ll never forget that. I’m not sure if it was his or if he took it home for the night. It was gorgeous.

Of the Pontiac's I have owned, it's a tie between my 70 1/2 TA and 66 2+2 convertible 421 HO 4-speed. They were very different, but I really loved them both. The TA because it did everything really well. Nice and tight, great handling, good brakes, decent power with the Ram Air III 400, really pretty, still modern. The 2+2 because it was a real sleeper and surprised the heck out of anyone who rode in it or lined up against it. Brutally quick to 80 MPH, (would smoke the 70 TA), handled surprisingly well for it's size, comfort for 5, pound for pound, one of pontiac's prettiest cars.

Granted I'm a little youger than most of you;
I have always been partial to Firebirds, especially second gen Firebirds;

I remember when I was maybe seven years old my dad (who some said would change cars more than his gonch!) had a black on tan cloth '79 TA - I disctinctly remember the hobnail cloth pattern on the seats, and the t-roof...

From a young age my favorite Hotwheel was the "Hot Bird".

In High School shortly after I bought my first car magazine (a Hot Rodding special on Firebirds) I got the silver soft covered consumers guide book on Firebirds (do any of you remember that one?) - I poured over it;
I loved the early Formula hood, and the stories of the SD455 made me want a '73 SD Formula... until I learned that they recieved the shaker hood.

I had a couple near purchases during my school days, and I made a list of what I preffered;
1) early second gen Firebird - single headlight car; the older the better
2) first gen Firebird
3) 77-78 Firebird
4) 79-81 Firebird
5) 82+ (I loved them and would have probably preffered one over a 79-81, but they were still quite expensive at the time)

When I was gifted (I chose it) my Formula, I decided on it over a freshly repainted '75 TA, and 74 Formula 455.

These days, I can honestly say that a manual transmission 1970 Formula is my favorite, except unlike 'yaker, I think that "halloween orange" is the best colour - which makes me like my car even more (when I got it, it was yellow, I had no idea it was Carousel Red!).
I love that 1970 was the only year with high compression, and I really prefer the one-year low back bucket seats.

When my car is done, it will either embody, or very closely embody my favorite Pontiac.

1962 SD-421 Catalina > They Ruled NASCAR - Would like to do a Clone of Fireball Roberts 62 SD-421 Catalina . Also a Red on Black 73-74 SD-455 T/A With mild mods >milled heads open scoop RA IV cam etc. a 74 SD-455 T/A with strict Rules has run a 12.47 @ 109 mph in Stock > Milled heads 9.7-1 Compression - factory style tires etc.

I've owned only two Pontiacs, a 64 Catalina hardtop and my 68 GTO.

My favorites in no particular order.
61 thru 64 Catalinas
67 Catalina
68 GTO
64 GTO

In regards to the 63-64 Catalinas I like the front styling of the 63 and the rear taillights of the 64. I guess my ideal would be a combination of the two LOL.

Wow! Interesting to see what people really like. More here really liking the big 60’s Pontiacs and GTO’s more than anything else. It’s also fun to see what everyone actually has compared to what they wished they had.

First car I can remember being cool as a kid was the 64 full-size wagon that my dad had, and gave to his father when I was about 6-7 years old. Both my grandfathers got liquored up one night, and painted the car with paint brushes. Baby blue.

For me, the grille area of the 1964 big cars is pretty aggressive and angry, like a pedestrian slicer. I'd love to have a 64 wagon, or two door 2+2, Catalina, Bonneville, whatever. First choice is the wagon.

I'm still sporting a 1999 Bonneville as a daily driver. Those cars used to be everywhere, now its a rarity to see another. Between intake manifold failures, rusty fuel and brake lines, and etc - its no surprise. My car spun the #2 rod bearing at 1800 rpm on the interstate - at 95,000 miles. Put a junkyard engine in, we are now at 174,000 and just had the trans overhauled. It wasn't cheap, but buying another POS for the same amount of money gets me another car that's a complete question mark rather than my car I know and understand. Car should now go 300K. I need to fix the AC.

Wow that is so different then the 69 Bonnie I learned to drive in. The tail lights reminded me of candy canes.

Impossible to name just one...

I came home from the hospital when I was born in a Voodoo green 1968 HO GTO with dealer installed Ram Air, so that has to be on the list.

My dad ordered a 1966 marina turquoise GTO the day he got out of Navy. I have had a duplicate of that car since I was 17 complete with red fender liners. So that has to be on the list.

I was born in 1970 so an orbit orange 1970 Judge and lucy blue 1970 Trans Am need to be on the list.

Everyone's list must include early cars that set the stage for Pontiac's muscle car success. So, a 1962 Catalina and 1963 Tempest are on mine.

A member here has a 50Th '76 4 speed 455 project with its original driveline. So its Black and Gold and is Not a leaking T top car. Needs a resto, but I think its for sale. pm me if interested

I like about any GTO (yes, even the 74), and the birds also but when push comes to shove it would be a 62 Catalina 425A car.

I like the 1970 - 1973 Trans Ams, especially red 73 SDs and Blue 71 - 72 HO cars.

When I was a teenager, the local hangout was an arcade with a old-fansioned drive-in with carhops. The arcade and drive-in shared shared a common parking lot. Lots of street racers circled the drive-in to set up races. People would stand around outside the arcade watching the racing action.

One weekend a guy came through with a white 71 T/A, destroyed one of the local guys with a built Nova. I fell in love with the look of the car, and then I saw a blue 71. It only got better when the red 73 SDs came out.

I sat in a red 73 SD455 automatic car in a showroom in Charlotte. I ended up with either that same car or a twin about 15 years later.

I like the Sunset Orange 2002s as well, they drive great and are well-mannered. I bought a WS6 6-spd convertible about ten years ago, but unfortunately my degenerative hip got bad enough I couldn't enjoy it any more.

On the A-body side, I like the 71-72 body styles. I have a Lucerne Blue 1972 Lemans Sport convertible, 455HO 4-spd with tuxedo interior. It's a little on the rough side and is a project car. I love the color combination.

I really like the 69 - 70 Grand Prixs as well. I owned a dark blue 1970 455 car and a black 1969 428HO 4-spd car. The 428HO car was really neat, but a/c wasn't an option on the 4-spd car. I ended up selling due to the lack of a/c.

About 20 years ago, I had a white 73 Grand Am with red interior. It was a 455 auto car. I loved driving it, and I can't remember why I sold it now but I regretted it after selling.

Overall, my favorites are the 70-73 Birds, both T/As and Formulas.
