The Callies ultra steel rods checked out ok, I'm replacing the rod bolts and I'll run them for another season. Next set will be aluminum.

Just a fyi when i ran a Scat crank at the 1000hp level with steel rods we could never get the mains to look great. The more we opened up the main clearance the better things looked. We came to the conclusion that the crank was flexing causing the issues. We've since went to a bryant crank and are now closing up the clearances without issue. I feel the Scat crank probably would have benefited from alum rods over the steel rods. I think the alum rods would cushion things better causing the crank to flex less. Just our observation

I am over 1000hp Scat crank Oliver billet rods same bearing 2012 every thing checks perfect. NHRA pro stock engine builder. Will be close to 1200hp this season with the bigger jets I don't foresee any problem.. Just hang on..

That's great. How many runs have you made at 1000+hp?

My neighbors Grandfathers best friends Uncle who lived across the street from Grumpy the Cat (RIP) tested this very same deal and found six horsepower. However they don't know how much of the power was from the two different cam cores, reduced friction or controlled windage. He felt like he completely waisted a lot of time, money and effort on the project...FWIW

BTW....he was not related the the guy that lived across the street from Tom Molnar. But did give Tom's three legged dog biscuits occasionally.

The only time IMO a Bryant crank is needed is in a boosted application 1500hp +

You've been making 1000hp since 2012?

It isn't about a Bryant crank, it's about the center counter weights, without them things flex especially with steel rods. Guys are making big power with other cranks and everyone i know of runs alum rods. Like i said just an observation based on my personal experience and based on talking to others who had similar experiences as mine.

Mike made the steps up in power and what he told me the forged crank was fine to 1000HP, then had issues. Had issues with his Ross pistons past that too.
The fully counter weighted billet crank, reinforced billet pistons and dry sump went a long way in fixing his issues. Said he could have went without the dry sump but did not want to go through all the building and testing with the potential problems with a high end wet sump.
I thought it was now pretty much common knowledge that a Pontiac needs a fully counter weighted crank to make big power-big RPM. Especially NA.
Or you will have main bearing issues just like Brian said.
What Pontiac folks could use is a forged fully counter weighted crank like the BBC guys have for 900$. Pontiac guys would pay 1500$ for them. But the dies cost 150K and you have to wait 10 years to get your money back.

And once again Thanks again Aaron and Billy for sharing information on your build.
I hope that motor exceeds your expectations on longevity!!

Sound like Mike just threw money at issues like i do or so i heard. Lol.
Mike and I shared quite a bit of info and both of us experience similar issues on some things.

I have no idea why you are bothered by this post. It's actually very informative if you understand the basic theory of making horsepower. You need to stop smoking that California funny stuff... it will make you less paranoid (seriously it's a proven fact that stuff makes you paranoid). Not everything is about "Dargncar". In fact very little is about you!
