The Italians are warning us not to make the same mistake that they did... underestimating the potential. I understand that the death rate has leveled out there to about 350 people a DAY. Hopefully, we will never see those kinds of numbers.
Frankly, I don't see how it can be contained. It could be on your mail for instance, the gas pump, the debit device where you put your pin in, etc.,etc. etc.
I hear that the millenials are in Florida by the thousands right now. It's spring break. They'll bring it back to all parts of the country.

Just to put the numbers in perspective.

If the virus killed a MILLION people a DAY .... it would take 22 years to depopulate the earth ... and that is not counting reproduction ... so at least 25 years.

If it kills 10,000 people a day ... it would take 2,192 years to kill everyone, in other words, it never would, we reproduce way faster than that.

If it kills 10,000 people a day, your odds of dying from the virus any given day would be 1/800,000.

If it killed One Million people total in the US, your odds of being a victim (not taking age into consideration) would be 1/350 or 0.2% of the population ... not 2% .. 0.2%.

Whenever something like this is being discussed you need to keep the numbers in perspective.

Went to the grocery store last night and aside from toilet paper, there were no shortages. The CEO of the paper products company was on the news, saying that there will be stock on the shelves shortly. They just couldn't keep up with the craziness, but they have the raw materials and capacity to crank out the product. Everything else, like milk and eggs, etc., are already re-stocked.

Just read some very encouraging information concerning the treatment of COVID-19. Researchers in France have discovered that using the drug combination of hydroxychloroquine (anti-malarial) and azithromycin(anti-biotic) is very effective in combating the COVID-19 virus IF detected early. Their clinical study has shown a nearly 100% cure rate using these drugs to combat early stage infections.

Interesting. The anti-biotic must be treating secondary infection since it would have no effect on a virus. And Malaria is a single cell parasitic infestation, unsure how medication for that would interact with a virus.

One of the properties of hydroxychloroquine is as an anti-viral. COVID-19 is a single celled viral organism.

I recall reading a post on this site in February of this year where someone described a horrific experience with a flu-pneumonia. I think they were 40 years old and thought they were literally going to die. I wonder if they could have had coronavirus and not known what it was??

I’d like to see a larger clinical group, but the results out of France are encouraging to say the least.

I'm 62 years old and have Diffuse idiopathic skeletal hyperostosis (DISH). It sounds worse than it is, it's basically a form of arthritis. I've got calcium deposits building up on the vertebrae in my neck. One of the effects is that it creates a tickle in the back of my throat, so I end up clearing my throat a lot and cough more when pollen is high. Well, I live in NC and pollen is everywhere. I went to a gas station last weekend to buy gas for my mower, and I cleared my throat and coughed, drawing the stare of everybody nearby. I felt like a leper. I've been working from home for the last week to protect myself but to also avoid stressing out co-workers.

I live southwest of Raleigh NC. Five of the first seven cases confirmed in NC were Biogen employees who picked the virus up at a convention in Mass. I'm about 7 - 8 miles away from Biogen, and there are a lot of Research Triangle Park employees living in my area. With my age, I'm not taking any chances and other than daily walks, I have isolated myself since Saturday. I will really miss my trips to Texas Roadhouse, but I'll survive.

My employer has cut all travel, even between local facilities, so some things are just being delayed. I was planning to go to western NC for some product testing, and then to Pittsburg in early summer. Both of those trips have been postponed indefinitely. My management also sent out an email and asked anyone that could work from home to do so, they have implemented nightly disenfecting procedures by the cleaning crew, and anyone with a fever or signs of sickness are being sent home immediately. We have also been told we can take unpaid leave of absence if we would like. During 2008, my employer made everyone take one week a quarter off as an unpaid absence. I'm expecting them to announce a similar policy starting in the second quarter. I think this will end up pushing my retirement out another six months or so, maybe longer. I was mostly out of the stock market when this hit, but the investments I didn't sell have been whacked hard.

I feel for all of the people who earn their income in retail, restaurants, and entertainment industry. I think before this is over, there will be a lot of pain inflicted on those who can least afford it.

- A 103-year-old Chinese grandmother has made a full recovery from COVID-19 after being treated for 6 days in Wuhan, China
- Cleveland Clinic developed a COVID-19 test that gives results in hours, not days.
- Good news from South Korea, where the number of new cases is declining.
- Italy is hit hard, experts say, only because they have the oldest population in Europe.
- Scientists in Israel likely to announce the development of a coronavirus vaccine.
- 3 Maryland coronavirus patients fully recovered; able to return to everyday life.
- A network of Canadian scientists are making excellent progress in Covid-19 research.

Thank you! I purposely started this thread here rather than the club house so it would get more participation. There is NOTHING political about the current issue we are facing. And it was not my intent to create political disparity.

I simply thought that when facing an issue so severe, that we'd finally be able to be honest and forthright about what's going on where you live, or about who you know.

I, as a long time member of this board, respect the rules and would never attempt an underhanded assault against the rules.
