Speedometer cable
Anyone buy a new speedometer cable recently?
I bought one from Inline Tube and the cable they sent me only has a threaded retainer on the one end of the cable They tell me they sold a lot of these with no issues but I cant see how with a missing retainer Photos attached The photo on the website also shows the cable with 1 retainer so I know what they sent me wasn't a bad part or made incorrectly |

One end threaded cables were for 69 and up. Non threaded end clips onto the back of the speedometer.

Are you sure about that?
My cluster has a threaded speedometer and the original cable had threaded retainers on both ends |

You have a 67 correct. Should be threaded on both sides. Check your order and make sure the right cable was ordered and then if they sent the wrong one, let them know.

Problem solved in 5 minutes.
Rock Auto has the correct part for 7 bucks! Its funny how these so called experts that are in this business of selling "OEM" restoration parts dont even know what parts fit what cars and when you ask them for help all they tell you is "that is the correct part my computer screen calls for" I always forget about Rock Auto but they do have a lot of common parts for these cars still. Best part is I will have it tomorrow too |

Yep, I got my steering linkage parts from Rock Auto for a fraction of the cost of what other vendors were asking for the same brand parts. They do have some stuff for our cars, still.

I like Rock Auto but I've gotten several parts from them that were incorrect...as in not even close incorrect...like for a completely different car incorrect.

I always look up my own part numbers check inventory locally then go in to the store and ask for the part number. That has been with Advance Auto. My new trick is go on O'Reilly site look up the part and if they don't have it, its at the store by 8am the next day. I have done this with A/C hose assemblies, A/C fittings, clutches and yesterday a Holley throttle linkage part. Its been good so far...

I just did this. On a 67, they are threaded on both sides.
Tip: They are not really lubed well - new. Hang it in the air - dangle it. And spray super silicone lube down the throat until it drips out the bottom. My new one went jiggy in a month. Very smooth now.

Since we’re on speedometer cables , my speedometer makes a ticking sound when I’m driving at certain speeds . Should I unscrew the cable from the Speedometer and grease it you think ?

Too make your life easier, reach behind the dash and unscrew that end. Spray some silicone down the end of the cable. It will run down the inside of the cable. You should be able to do this in 5 minutes.

Disconnect the cable from the back of the speedometer and take a pair of needle nose pliers and pull out the inner cable from the housing. Lube it up as you slide it back into the housing, works 99 out of 100 times for quieting them down, and stopping the bouncing. |

Just ordered a speedo cable for the '67 GTO I'm building. Looked it up in my Pontiac Factory Parts Book / Printed in 1972, '67 4-speed GTO part # was 6478124 ( AC service part # AC282) cable is 53 1/8" and casing was 52" long. Closest replacement was: OER (Original Replacement Reproductions) 6478125 55" speedometer cable listed as 67 -69 Camaro. This was the closest to the correct length that I could find and I ended up buying it on Ebay

Why do they list two different lengths, 63" and 83"?

83" is for the Ford Dearborn transmission
