Default Potholes Anyone?

It is warming up here somewhat in Michigan.
We are known for our "wonderful" roads - abysmal conditions in the spring during the freeze/thaw cycles.
Won't even consider taking the cars out until pothole patching is well under way in the springtime.

I commuted 105 mes per day for 27 years and I hated this time of year. I would travel to other states and their roads were good. Now that I'm retired my part time job commute is 2 miles, easier to manage them now.

Apparently, you didn't travel to Pennsylvania.

My personal favorites are the horrible potholes that get over filled with hot top, so they become reverse potholes. Basically little speed bumps. lol

My GMC is constantly at risk for cracking a rim on good potholes, and will sometimes catch those reverse potholes, so it basically sits in the garage until they get out there and fix them.

I remember the old days. Today's cars wouldn't last 50 miles on those old roads we had around here. They were built in 1790s lol..

Once we have a good rain, I plan to fish in some of the ones on our street.

Friend told me 'Bob do what you can let the rest go'(politics). The tail gaters now get a surprise.ill miss the pot hole just enough and let them hit it!!

The only time PA had decent roads was when Tom Ridge was Governor, other than that they've been one step away from impassable.

Voted by Overdrive magazine over and over as the worst state in the union for potholes. They weren't given that title, they earned it......

Now living in Ohio since 2001, it ain't much better than PA.

It is really funny as to how our governor, Whitmer in Michigan, ran on this platform of " fix the damn roads" and they are as bad as ever. Michigan has had terrible roads since I can remember, and I have been driving since 1978. When we had the lockdown would have been the best time to actually fix the roads as there was very little traffic for months. That would have been the safest time for the road workers to be out there working.

I have seen some progress in the last year as local roads have been replaced, and major highways resurfaced. Now, no excuse with the billions released with the latest stimulus. The issue here in this state is the heavy trucks still have the highest in the nation weight limits, and it ain’t long before the roads are once again trashed. Sometimes the center of a asphalt heaved road will kiss your exhaust. Dear God, and Whitmer wanted to raise the gas tax 45 cents a gallon, but not address weight limits. Go figure.

Increased weight limits won't be a problem if the number of axles are also added to the chassis as they are here in OH. Here they have a tandem axle dump with 3 tag axles added, so the weight is born over a larger area.

Living in PA, they also didn't add tag axles like they do here in Oh. You might have a tandem with 1 tag axle, not 3.

When we lived outside of Hartford, I had to run up to Boston for my wife. I hit a pothole so large on the Mass Turnpike it threw my truck (Silverado 1500) sideways.

I hate the heaves more than potholes. The heaves act like giant hidden speed bumps in the winter, and turn into full blown gullies in the summer.

You only need to worry about sinkholes in Florida. The ultimate pothole.
