68 nose gap to body?
What is an acceptable range from hood and fenders?

Roger set a pretty good standard in his resto thread: http://forums.maxperformanceinc.com/...&postcount=371

I set my bumper around 1/8 away from the fender. This keeps the paint from chipping as they move independently of each other. I think my hood gap is close to 1/8-3/16 as well

That looks really good in the thread. I don’t see a fraction for gap though. I’m going to estimate 3/16?
I have a feeling my painter shaved the little notch on bumper allowing gap to be wider between hood and bumper compared to fender and bumper. I think he’s just following a contour of the front lines. If I’m guessing right then it’ll be the same gap across the front end. |

As long as it is consistent I think you will be good

Oh good! I sent your images to my painter. I just told him 3/16.

I went by today and it looks like it’s fitting ok. The bumper lines up with fenders but a little lower than hood. It seems fine to me.
Luckily he didn’t shave off notches. I think he does plan to square them off though. |

68's weren't squared notches, they did that on the 69's but do make it look a little cleaner.

If all goes well this week I can get the new vinyl top done.
I can’t drop 600 on bezels and backing plates right now so I’ll shop around. |

How do you get the bumper farther back? On mine the brackets have bottomed out against the core support and the bumper can't be pulled back any farther. There is an excessive gap between the fender and the bumper. Should I cut and weld the brackets? I have an extra set. Mine is a put-together car from spare parts after purchasing a stripped shell from out west.

Also, we tend to want our cars to be perfect. In reality, the fitment from the factory on these cars with the endura bumpers varied a lot, with some pretty big gaps. On a black car, this will be much less noticeable than on a light colored car. That is, unless you are looking for it. Looks like it's coming along very nicely. Congrats!

Nose Gaps
Another thing to check: your body shell may be too far back. There is some front/back and side to side adjustability in the body mount holes. Loosen all the body mount bolts and use some rachet straps from the front frame/endura brackets to the cowl openings where the access to the mounting bolt/inner fender bolts up to and bring the body forward some.

People often forget just how much the body can move on the frame. I bet it's 1/2" front to back and side to side. Lots of slop in those body mounts. I'm a fan of leaving them all loose until the front clip and bumper is aligned. If the body shell at the cowl is shifted left and the rear of the shell is shifted right (etc).. it will be very difficult to get the front clip lined up right.
