Even in a worst case scenario this may be a blessing in disguise. I never liked the ticking of the Lunati lifters. IF I need a cam and lifters what should I be looking at. I have the TKO600 with the .64 final drive and 3.70 gears with a 26 inch tall tire. I looked at the Lunati website in case my cam is not salvageable and they are out of almost everything. My machinist is of the opinion that since its running right now that there is a small chance of a catastrophic failure and that no machine work should be necessary other than checking the bearings. I am going to replace the Torker with a Performer RPM. Any other suggestions before I drop it off next Monday?

Did builder say to do any inspection yourself prior to taking to him or just bite the bullet and pull it?

He will not touch it with it in the car, he is too old and crotchety to be bending over a fender. My nephews and I can have it out in 45 minutes so I will take it out ASAP and take it down there. He is backed up and I am broker so I will be making payments on parts necessary and he will work at his pace, I told him as long as it was back on the road by March so I can go to Myrtle Beach for the car show I would be happy.

Wish I could answer that but it being said, What’s wrong with the brand of pushrods you have now? I’m sure you know, this is unlikely to blame on the pushrods.

Well I’m getting 16 pushrods cause I don’t want to replace just two. Just wondering

Definitely understand that as different lifters will likely require a different length pushrod. Do you have the build sheet for your engine? May say the brand and wall thickness of the ones you have now.

Wayne has it. I’m hoping this goes smoothly and I can be back on the road in about 3 months. Will definitely be getting and MSD box with rev limiter

When you get the rockers off, take a pic of the tops/tips of the valves, can see if the pushrod length was a factor. Might as well take a pic of the bottom of those rockers on #2 as well. Or a few of them.

I would say the most likely cause is retainer clearance, but if that's the problem, it's going to be a builder issue, and he may just do the same thing over again. (since he didn't check/catch it the first time).

Smith Bros pushrods are pretty good, and pretty affordable. Butler sells them in lengths of .050.

Some people prefer thicker wall ones, or larger diameter which requires changing the guide plates.

Rev limiter? Do you think you over-revved it?

Just to say, over-revving is generally not a cause of bent pushrods.

Is this the engine with big Chevy rockers because the machinist determined Pontiac rockers had incorrect geometry?

Here it indicates he was planning Lunati (unknown specs) pushrods...https://forums.maxperformanceinc.com...&postcount=165

Hopefully you get this all resolved with minimal damage!!

I missed that point, what's the post # on that? Or different thread?

Yeah I over revved it. I missed 3rd and it hit about 7000. Caster1 has almost exact engine in his car and has no problems from it. I am pretty sure I over revved it and that was it. It holds 10 pounds at idle even coasting down the road and ran fine other than a skip from the dead cylinder. I am hoping I can drop the pan, clean it out, put lifter and pushrods in and seal it back up.

This is a red flag for me...

My comment on the other thread:

You say the 'geometry' is perfect with the BBC rockers? I know I would like to see a pic at mid lift. I'm guessing that the 'contact pattern' approach was used.

Also would be curious to know which lifters were used and the pushrod length. I'm betting there's a pretty short pushrod being used."

Lifters probably came out of the bores.

Like I said, over-revving rarely causes a problem like this.
