Dry fit your oil pan with gasket first to check for windage tray interference (oil pan bolts won't star on both sides). In some cases, you can loosen the windage tray bolts and "center" the windage tray as the mounting bolt holts are slightly oversize and the tray may have "walked" to one side when the builder was tightening it down. If that doesn't work, you'll have to "peen" the windage tray for oil pan bolt access. A tap with a hammer and a drift at each oil pan bolt hole is sometimes required.

Degrease and scuff all the gasket surfaces and glue the gasket to the pan making sure you have sealed the outside corners of the rails where the gasket surface follows the contours of the main cap and timing cover. Apply sealant to the block only to the inside corners and up and over rear main and the inside corners where the block and timing cover meet.

In the long run, you'll be glad you spent the time and money to do a first-class installation.
Thats what i did the other day, stopped off at Wades house, hes about a hour away, got another one piece gasket...............we took two of his repo pans and mine , put a straight edge over them,my pan is about a 1/4 smaller in front...............and on my car that is very close to the center link, so to use the other pans i would have to dent them up some in the front................Wade ordered me a canton pan, will measure when he gets that.

Ames says they have the correct pan that will fit but it doesnt have a baffle.........but on the website it says almost all the pans they have will need to be indented........so im not sure how many pans im gonna have to buy to find something that fits.

I also bought new motor mounts from ames, so maybe that might raise the motor up some and help with the issue...........i know you can but spacers for the frame mounts, im wondering how much this would mess with your trans , pinion angle measurments.

Mine originally had a chrome Moroso deep sum with baffle. The PO had the pan on and off so many times (multiple spun bearing incidents) that the metal was soft around the bolt holes. A slight tug of the socket wrench just deformed the rails. When I rebuilt the motor, I threw the pan out and found a good deal on a Milodon low profile with the side kickouts. The matching pickup bolted to a main cap. Installed it with a BOP one-piece gasket as I outlined and never leaked a drop again.

Hey, thanks for the numbers.............just got off the phone with Wade he ordered a 15-389 pan from canton...........that is even higher in front then the pan he sells...........strange..................stopping there tomorrow, will look them over since i have to hammer them to death anyways..............the other option is the ames pan which they say is the excate same as oem..............oh boy..............will try to call ames and see if they can measure one of those pans in front.............im losing more money on shipping sending stuff back lately. lol

Im wondering if i have some issue with my frame, cant believe people with 66/67 are buying these oil pans and not having issues.................

Hoping this works out ok.

Ok, a little update for you guys following this...........ordered the N322 from ames today, says this is the one you need to fit right..........we will see.

In the mean time i stopped at Wade"s today and picked up a repo........thought i would give it a shot.............well my pan i had on was screwed up on the front lip some but the holes lined up well..............now on the repo the front lip is even worse than what i have, and the holes are quite a bit off, dont think even studs in there would line it up any better...............i bent the new one quite a bit in front, looking a little better, but im thinking the holes will be off anyways.............well theres another repo down the drain.

That's not good. Something sounds off to me.

I have Canton pan, and it fits pretty good. These aftermarket pans are something I would think don't have serious fitment issues. Wade at BOP knows his Pontiac parts and wouldn't sell poorly fitting pans.

You may want to get a 2nd set of eyes on the problems. I have friends that know nothing about Pontiacs, but sometimes I have a series of problems and they give me a different perspective and fresh eyes and it helps a lot.

All the reproduction pans from China will be a crapshoot. You can buy a Dorman OEM replacement over the counter at your local O'reilly's or Autozone. If it fits, great. If it doesn't, knowing it's a short trip to the store for a refund when it doesn't fit eases the pain.

I hear ya there...........im gonna wait untill the pan from ames shows up and see what i go going there.............Im not blaming Wade for anything, not like hes making the pans........thought this would be a risk, and said , lets try it.

On the pics the painted pan is the one i had on the car, dont know why the front is so messed up on it.........i never touched it and never noticed any leaks from the front, the builder said he bent it to pass the "smoke test"........wonder what he was smoking.

In the pics, you can see the bare pan and the fit on the front, its not too bad now, but i hd to bend it alot just to get to this spot......you can see the holes are nothing to brag about.

Gonna order some studs for the oil pan, maybe might help some, who knows.

Thanks for hanging in there with me guys

Ok, thought i would update this mess..........got the ames oem pan, just like original they claim..........fits worse than the chinese repo..........thought i would get slick and use studs, that may matters even worse...........i bought the baffle that you weld unto the pan......god knows how that would even fit.........

I know my windage is making me force the bolts in........can you run without a tray and no baffle...........or im gonna have to take it off and then bend it, cant bend it with it on the motor, ..........also noticed a issue with the bop one piece gasket seems really loose where its supposed to fit around the crank.........thinking of cutting it off there and try the cork around the crank.........as far as the new pan, trying to fit without a gasket, im using a .035 as in the pic you can see fits easily............and if i put a gasket down, you can see the gap...........i didnt torque them to 12 ish, but im pretty close.

Not sure what im gonna do now............cant believe its this hard to get a pan to fit........

are you fitting these pans without a gasket in place,? that will effect front hole alignment

also is your timing cover utilizing the lower dowels?

That is a good question on the dowels..........will have to check with builder on that one.........i took off the oil pump today, so i could bend the windage tray better, holes are still off, gasket on or gasket off...........i guess tomorrow i"ll a rat file thru the holes.......so much for oem aftermarket pans.

Im surprised the fit with the studs is the worse of them all........
