66 GTO oil filter
Can anyone tell me what Wix oil filter fits a 66 GTO. Book says 51049 but it is too long. I tried a 51258 but thread pitch didn't feel right. I took a Fram PH25 off but I cringe at the thought of installing a new one. I know thread pitch is 13/16 16. And the Fram is 4.050 tall.

Both the 51049 and the 51258 have 13/16" threads. Wix filter lookup specs the 51049 for a '66 GTO, but the 51258 is a suitable replacement.
Specs for both: Product Specifications Part Number: 51049 UPC Number: 765809510494 Style: Spin-On Lube Filter Service: Lube Type: Full Flow Media: Enhanced Cellulose Height: 5.178(132)* Outer Diameter Top: 3.66(93)* Outer Diameter Bottom: Closed: Thread Size: 13/16-16 By-Pass Valve Setting-PSI: None Beta Ratio: 2/20=6/20 Burst Pressure-PSI: 260 Max Flow Rate: 9-11 GPM Nominal Micron Rating: 21 Product Specifications Part Number: 51258 UPC Number: 765809512580 Style: Spin-On Lube Filter Service: Lube Type: Full Flow Media: Enhanced Cellulose Height: 4.338(110)* Outer Diameter Top: 3.66(93)* Outer Diameter Bottom: Closed: Thread Size: 13/16-16 By-Pass Valve Setting-PSI: None Anti-Drain Back Valve: Yes Beta Ratio: 2/20=6/20 Burst Pressure-PSI: 345 Max Flow Rate: 9-11 GPM Nominal Micron Rating: 21 I highlighted the differences. |

I use the Wix 51258 in my '66 with Doug's headers. Great fitment.

I think I now see my issue. It looks like your filter bracket is canted slightly. Mine is straight which puts the filter close to the lower rear A arm bracket.

The correct filter adapter is the angled one for a '66 GTO. Somewhere along the road, someone either replaced the OE one for some reason or the block came out of another car that came with the straight adapter.

Yes.. It is a 389. Last 4 of block casting is 6769. Thinking block came out of a Catalina or other B body.. I noticed on ZeGermanHams picture the angled adaptor. I'm sure that's my issue.

Yes, the 90° filter adapter came on big Pontiacs and the slanted filter adapter on A-bodies.
