Default Dogs and fireworks 💥

Who’s got a dog freaking out about now?
Got a year and a half Cocker Spaniel shaking under the bed. Last year he didn’t even notice them.

I shoot around my labs, as they bird hunt, so fireworks usually gets them excited. I had one years ago that as he got older, loved gunfire, but flipped out from fireworks Hmmm

No dogs anymore, but we've had Border Collies over the years that couldn't handle it, not even thunderstorms. Our last one died because of thunder. She jumped over the fence and was hit by a car. That was around '05.

While I understand the "need" for cities, states or countries to show off some fireworks on national days or for some sort of competition.

But I honestly believe fireworks should be banned from being sold to the public.

They are just obnoxiously loud, look like S**t because they are cheap and are just disturbing public peace. And most often end up in the hands of immature arses.

The amount of crap it leaves behind, the noise scares animals ( even kills wildlife) , and triggers prople suffering PTSD ... all that for the pleasure of a few inbreds living in my neighborhood.

Call me old man , I dont care lol

BTW even if your dog are acting somewhat cool around fireworks just be aware that the explosions are actually perceived 4 times louder for them than it is for you. My great dane hates it...

New born human babies is about twice compared to adult ears.

Our little Dog hates fireworks or thunder, starts to shake so bad, then starts to pant. We tried thunder jackets, with only mild
success. Now we give her a pill to calm her. Also she is gong deaf so that helps. almost 16. The Vet gave us trazadone, 1/4 pill does her in.

Great dogs, smart as hell. Sorry you lost one in that manner. I had one that was part brown lab, I guess they are known as Boradors now. Mom was a registered BC, dad was a brown lab passing through town in a Packard (haha).

Max, likewise, did not like fireworks at all.

Pontiacs are loud, they should be banned as well?

Baseball stadium has post-game fireworks. Spot
a bunch of Lost Dog notices in the area. Guy drove
20 miles to watch the game, and left his pitbull in
the back of his truck. Yeah...

Gotta like apples and oranges...

.. but hey im sure you'd really enjoy having a bunch of neighbor's kids revving their superbikes in their driveway hitting cutoffs and flicking the run/off switches to make backfires....that for 15 minutes...

The problem nowadays is alot of people feel entitled to do whatever they want saying we're living in a free country.

We were brought up with: " Your freedom stops where mine begins", might sound oldschool but I think the world would be a better place with a little more civility and empathy.

We have done lots of crazy stuff and I havent grown up one bit...but whatever I do, drive, ride I try not to be an arsehole the the people around me.

We are all in this together, I prefer peace and harmony.

Happy 4th of July
Peter

How about, "My freedom doesn't end where your feelings begin".

I'll light off a big mortar just for you tonight.

One of our bulldogs was a bit skiddish, and one of the Chihuahuas acted up a bit. The wife gave them 'calming' treats I think that helped. Windows were closed so it was just a few booms they heard. Years ago we had a bull terrior that would cower and shake under a table every thunderstorm.

Fireworks are ok for our nations birthday celebration on the Fourth of July! I dont have anything against them, being in the middle of the week I expect them to continue for the next couple of days. That and News Year is the only time they go off around my place. I literally dont have money to burn so I will not buy them. But if others want to so be it.

The biggest issue is he wouldn’t pee until about 11:00 when it slowed down. Also, he doesn’t mind the cars, but hates the compressor.

If you dont like fireworks... close your windows on the 4th and put on some music or go somewhere away from them for a few hours 1 day out of the year... your opinion or feelings dont over rule people celebrating Independence day. If its legal in your city/state, people are free to do what they want, regardless of a person or dogs feelings.

My opinion after living next to neighbors with obnoxious barking dogs for many years, who do nothing to stop it & seem to actually encourage it... I could not care less if their dog gets scared of a couple hours of fireworks, if it was legal in my city I would fire off all kinds of fireworks just to give them a taste of what I go through all day every day that chitbox is outside, it barks when the wind blows, at birds & if it sees a person it goes totally crazy, would probably attack me if there wasnt a fence! & when I say chitbox I mean it literally, these people dont pick up their 2 dogs poop, just let it fester in the hot sun all year long, it literally smells so bad I can barely walk down the side of my garage thats next to their back yard without almost gagging!

So yeah, I have no sympathy for those types of dogs/owners that just let their dogs bark with no care or respect for their neighbors on a daily basis, but then cry when some fireworks are lit off on the freakin 4th of july?

& Im a dog lover, just hate obnoxious barking dogs & their owners!

Maybe you'll see in my original post that I never said anything about banning 4th of July fireworks, I'm not the grinch... Just not putting em in the hands of the public.

I grew up in a town where fireworks were banned since the 70s because the local Fire Captain's son got killed while picking up fireworks that he thought was DUD.

As for dogs , I'm sorry you have an careless neighbor, hopefully you will work it out. Some people should never have pets , let alone have kids...

My dog never barks , doesn't have to. He's 160 pounds and 3 feet tall at the shoulder. Some people think I'm an arse because my dog is always off leash, but for the last 8 years he sticks by my side all the time and listens to me religiously.

Being a gearhead, I own a bunch of loud motorcycles and cars, but I try to be mindful of my neighbors when I drive away and refrain from starting 'em for no reasons.

I never cut the grass on Sundays and do my best to avoid making noise after 5pm any day.

Got rid of my 2 stroke weed whackers and leaf blowers for battery powered ones even if the property is just over an acre.

Not expecting everyone to be a perfect citizen but I believe in communication and empathy goes a long way to resolve conflicts.

The United States would be in a much better shape today, if people were willing to work out the issues the have together and learned how to make compromise instead on buying into the all the polarizing political BS that's flying around non stop.
