I’ll have to pull it apart and get you the details

Hey ponchjoe, sorry to divert this thread, but your comment on the 17056261 interested me. There is a thread here, http://forums.maxperformanceinc.com/...light=17056261 (and others on the forum), where it was mentioned that the 6261 did not exist. The 6263 was supposedly the q-jet that came with the 455 in 76. Do you have a picture of the carb showing the numbers?

John

Hey John

Funny I saw that thread and just went out and tried to take some pics. It is a 6264 but the 4 is poorly stamped and it’s right behind the linkage. So the Bigfoot of Qjets is still in tact lol.

So for sure the Mopar crowd doesn't think much of them.......FWIW
Cliff - many of the MoPar dudes didn't like them when new; which is why a bunch got trash-canned. The 750's came on the performance 440's, not the Newports. The folks doing the full blown restorations were paying BIG bucks (close to RAIV bucks) for the S/T 750 AVS's. I have been sold out of these for probably 10 years, so do not know the current market. There was virtually no demand for the 340, 383, and Newport 440 carbs (630 CFM), although have sold quite a few repair kits for these.

As far as the '66 Chevy AVS, I have yet to have anyone even price a carburetor; and in 50 years, I have sold a grand total of 2 rebuilding kits.

I have been thru the timing and advance even changing it to ported advance and as I said it runs well. It just does not put you back in the seat much.
The 326 is rebuilt with maybe a small cam upgrade, otherwise stock.
Should I just get a 68-71 intake and build a Qjet or is there something I can do to tune this carb or is 600 cfm enough?
Thanks
Just listing my experiences...

1. I have a 326 H.O. motor that was rebuilt this year—original motor for a 66 Lemans. stroked the motor, mild roller cam, kept the heads, new valves, same intake, and a Carter AFB.
2.. Switched the gears from 260's to 336
3. Changed the trans from the 2-speed 300 to a turbo 350.
4. The carb could not keep up and was newly rebuilt, switched to an Elderbrock AVS2 650 -which was much more responsive and could keep up to revs of 5k.
All that being said... the car might be a high 14-second car. That was not the purpose but wanted a stronger motor to keep up and that runs well... nothing that will throw you to the seat... that would take way more work.

Moving on to a 69 Firebird
1. 400, 3:55 gears, 700R4, headers, mild cam and intake, 750 carb
2. Solid reliable car, that will put you in the seat floored from 1st gear, catch second hard, and pull. To get that out of a 326 would take a lot.

73 Firebird
1. 461 stroker, turbo 400, 373 gears, with overdrive.
2. Kaufman heads, solid roller cam, 850 Holley AED,
3. Will solidly put you in the seat, 11 seconds at the track with drag radials, but everything has a cost, so how much do you want to give up for more power.....

I enjoy the Lemans for cruising and events, reliable and fun to drive.
