I was young when I worked at the Pontiac dealership, and in service and new car unloads and set up. My Grandfather though already had in 50 years, and We worked at same dealer. I was told that the dealership paid added interest or maybe could have been a penalty on cars over that 1 year period. I think cars that were financed were only for a year. I know the dealership did NOT own all the cars outright. Force shipped ugly strippers especially. The grace period was 30 days paperwork, shipping. Many times youll see the date of "Draft" a month after the ship date to allow for this. There was different types of "ownership" I am not familiar with. I know many cars that were on GMAC had like nothing in interest till the trigger date in around 11 months. Much of what I learned happened because I got the duty to check off cars as they came off the haulers for damage and accessories in trunk, etc. After I signed the Bill of lading I had to go visit the sales manager where I got Some info as well. I'm not disagreeing , it all makes sense and Im sure it could be more complicated than I know. Class A, B, C etc, I wasnt schooled on, thankfully. Thanks John V for your input!!

I am womdering where on the PHS paperwork the build date is for my 73, I see
the following, My car was missing the trim tag when I got it.
Ship date 3-21-73
Note date 3-27-73

there are some here who may be able to figure out the information your trim tag would have said;
I believe that Van Nuys cars have a very high degree of predictability for trim tag info - as the info shared on the build sheet and PHS would be on the tag;
Norwood cars are a little different - I am usure if the body number can be accurately deduced... unless someone has info recorded for cars build before and after it.

Bringing this one back up.

I looked at an early build Formula recently.

VIN is 1003xx. Trim tag is 10C and last line is 090xxx.

I'll see if there is a PHS in his possession.

OK, got to look again. Last line is actually 030xxx. Build sheet shows scheduled build date of 10-25.

10-22 (Monday) should have been the holiday Veteran's Day. And, the 03 fits for the 10-25 date and fits Rocky's report of production starting on Oct. 23rd.
So, maybe the bodies were started on Oct. 18th or 19th (Thursday/Friday and fits the 10C date).

Oops. I was looking at the 1973 calendar (that's what I get for owning '74s for so many years).

1972 calendar shows Veteran's Day was Monday the 23rd. And makes the 10C trim tag date better, in my opinion.
1978 was the year of 11-11.

He didn't have PHS, it was a build sheet instead. I'll see if he's interested in purchasing it.

The Shipped date is out the door to dealer.
But I don't know how long it took to go from start to finish on the production line. Could be less than a day possibly. So, the date could be close sometimes?

The 6 digit # has a 'date' in it. Might be able to see how it correlates.

Ok, somehow I'm not connecting all this info together. So this is all my numbers from my '73 TA, which was a ZNA coded build shipped to the Portland OR. Zone Office (325-997).

Trim tag date 03B. Tag #980257. From PHS, date shipped 5-16-73, date of note 5-29-73 and the Door Cert. label was 05/73. Date of Execution was also 5-16-73.

No Build Sheet present, so no scheduled build day known.

If it's of any help, there is a typed note on the PHS invoice under the last extra cost option of ZSI-25-1135.

Your VIN around N122xxx - N123xxx? That would be good for the cowl tag date and number. Is your tag riveted on?

Your car is also a Zone car so may have sat for awhile before sold at a dealer. (may have had 2 phs?)

The PHS numbers are basically for when it went to dealer and was sold.
Would have thought the door decal would correlate to the cowl tag.
Could have sat in 'purgatory' for something needing worked on and then sent out?

Mike probably knows more on the actual date of the 6 digit number.
I'd say around April. But don't know if they counted every day or just work days.

Also don't know if there was any work stoppage (or the EGR fiasco problems)

Yes, riveted tag and 1231xx VIN. Car has the second design ("B" system) EGR also, even though it was built the week of the mandated EGR change. (March 15th IIRC.) Engine serial number is post change number by quite a few numbers.

I had Mike Noun make me one of his excellent window stickers and he believes the 325-997 was the Portland Zone Office, not a Zone Lot car, which would have been 325-995. So some sort of special use or special designation. Of course it did finally get billed to a dealership in Eugene.
