Can’t wait to how how the ‘72 iron intake stacks up against the others.
I’m betting pretty well and better than expected. Is the ‘72 iron intake ported or untouched?

The '72 iron intake ports are completely 100% untouched. I think the water x-over has been cut off for easy swapping is all.

Will you be using hydraulic roller or tight lash solid roller lifters?

Well, there's been a lot of delays, but finally made it to the dyno yesterday. Unfortunately a lot of dic*ing around at first with incidentals that burnt up a lot of expensive dyno time, so we're going to have to finish up on Monday.
But yesterday, the engine was broken in for a few minutes, and the baseline Q-Jet and bone stock 455HO intake were installed. First pull was aborted due to a carb issue as it went WAY lean (like 20+AFR) and ran shi*ty. Rather than burn expensive dyno time trying to troubleshoot, it was easier and quicker for Derek to put on his own personal Q-jet that turned out to be very close on AFR. Best pull with the stocker HO intake was 502HP and 551TQ with 36degrees at 5500RPM. Swapped intakes to an identical HO intake that had been heavily ported and they got 531HP and 570TQ with that one...Derek said it was still going so that was somewhat north of 5500RPM, not sure. That's a huge jump for just an intake swap!! Impressed with his port work for sure!! But unfortunately that was the last pull of the day. We have more manifolds and spacers to test along with a totally different and modified 897cfm Q-Jet. He's also gonna pop the top off my baseline carb and see what's wrong, kinda suspecting trash, debris or needle and seat issue, since it worked fine on-engine before shipping it to him. Kinda secretly hoping for about 575-ish and 595-ish on TQ...but we'll see. Derek thinks the dyno is a wee bit stingy, but we'll see after we've had a chance to look at all the numbers. More to come. |

After further testing and tweaking the ported HO intake went 558HP/579TQ. Switched to the RPM intake and best with the Q-Jet was 571HP/583TQ, and with a 900cfm Holley, the RPM intake went 577HP/604TQ.....Street Dominator is next with and without a spacer.
