The one I believe to be original to the car has a part number of 9715291-A6.

It has very little arch in it compared to the other I had (part number 978137). I took a pic of them together to show the difference.

So I believe it's correct, but I'm not seeing anything reproduced that looks like it. I only have one of them, so I can't have them re-plated even if I wanted

Chevy Nova, 99%of which had std. Interior, had the " clearish" ( sp) low profile handles with the flat door card. I think looking at that market, and maybe even first gen F body, may prove helpful. A lot of not obvious changes were 60's left overs.
Heartbeat City will probably have them, but they are expensive.
Std interior with Dark colors got the low profile black, pic below. Light color interiors, Any version of white, light blue, sandalwood, got the Clear. I have seen them rebuilt with different knobs. I will take this black one off the car if you need it, you can have it.

Interesting.

I dug through a pile of them I have stashed away, and I actually found another with the same part number but a different color knob. The chrome is smoked on it, but it's the same.

I'll probably go with a set of reproductions with clear knob and see what I can track down that's more correct later. Thank you for the offer though!

I might not be as old as many here, but my observations should count for something;
I never observed more than on kind of window crank handle as being originally used in second gen f-bodies;
They were always the ones with a clear knob - that clear knob would over time tend to turn yellow/gold.
I have seen ones with a more pronounced curve, or with solid coloured knobs - neither of which did I understand to be original to these vehicles.

More progress. Gaps are getting dialed in, the rear of the car is coming together nicely. Front sheet metal is painted. The engine was broken in on the stand with its Q-Jet and points ignition and went smooth as silk.

It is pretty wild how much brighter Polar white is compared to my Cameo white car.

Hood and nose are being painted today. After that all paintwork is done and final assembly begins!

Looks great. What did you use as primer for the interior of the shell and underneath the body? I haven't found anything close to the original rosette colored primer.

Things are looking great! One thing though, the engine color looks a little off. Maybe it's the lighting? It looks a little like the Bill Hirsch color that I used except yours looks more glossy. Then I repainted it with Duplicolor and I thought it looked much better.

May have still been wet when the pic was taken, I don't recall the Hirsh having that sheen.

I personally use the Duplicolor, but I am not one that cares to do things 'OE'. Plus, the Duplicolor is readily available.

Final few body parts painted up. The hood has been a major undertaking to make sure it's correct for a 70. It looks awesome.

The nose was not in too horrible shape compared to the rest of the car, and came out perfect.

Shifter was blown apart, blasted and painted as well.

It's a custom mix based off the Duplicolor 1616 can. The engine was shot in a primer, painted and cleared. It definitely has a shine to it right now, but I've found them to dull down after a few heat cycles and they look good.

The effort to save the original passenger side exhaust manifold has taken a turn...

I sure hope you get it fixed!
My experience is that the pipe stud bosses are the weak point - I cannot recall having noticed one of these cracking on the rear of the casting!

My issue was on the drivers side where there were only to bosses to begin with...
That one bad recommendation to have the studs replaced the summer after I got my car had long term repercussions - It took me probably fifteen years before I was finally able to get a proper repair to one of the pipe stud bosses on one of my manifolds...
So few people do cast iron repair these days.

Question for you guys:

Rear view mirror. My original has gone missing, but it was the type that mounts to the roof and the sun visors tie into the mirror mount, much like a 1st gen. Flipping thru the Ames book, they show a polished stainless mirror labeled as 70-71, but it mounts to the glass like a 71+ not a 70.

Can I order a mirror, mount, and rubber trim piece for a 69? And more importantly, would that be accurate for a 70?

That style mirror has the whole mount on it. 1st gen style . While the holes are indeed in the inner roof structure, take a look and see if they have threads. My Buddy Allan's car had/ has the rubber mounted to roof for the visor " pegs" but actually attached to the glass as a 71 and up.
Ames has that rubber / plastic piece, IIRC it was around 50 bucks. It is and was Black. Originally the mirrors were stainless as you know. Mirrors are around 10" long. There should be a makers mark near the day night flip switch.
I used to rebuild these mirrors with parts from Paragon Corvette. They have the glass mirror and the mirror gasket if you find an acceptable core.

My 70 Esprit came with the glass mount style, delivered in April of 1970. Was yours an earlier car or was it based off of Esprit vs T/A?

This is interesting to me as well, because my 70 Formula I believe originally came with a windshield mounted mirror. I put it back on glass when I replaced the windshield, but as you can see, there are also holes in the headliner where something used to be? I don’t recall taking anything off there myself, or even seeing it before… but it was over 20 years ago that I stripped this interior!

The visors in your first photo don't appear to have the post sticking out that would clip into the center retainer.

I agree, it looks like you had a roof mounted mirror. Maybe the previous owner was tired of the glass mounted one falling off as they often did in the sun.

Does the hole pattern look like it matches this bracket?
