Default Torque converter slip

What is a acceptable converter slip on a converter used for bracket racing ?
I am getting too much.

I think it depends what you're willing to live with. I have converters that slip anywhere from one to nine percent. If all is good and you're looking to lower your trap RPM a good converter builder should be able to do that.

Well, looks like I am at 30% so I would be happy with 9% at this point.
I have a 9" PTC fresh from them. I will put it in and see what happens.
Motor is running great. Trans seems to be fine. 1.38 and 1.39 60 foots this weekend. Hits the tires hard in the burnout and 2nd gear and the 2-3 shift is solid.

My converter slips 6.8% going 10.01 at 134 mph at 3558 pounds for one data point. The converter is a 9.5" Redneck Racing from 2012.

Thirty percent is a lot .... How are you coming up with this number?

Wallace Racing. I don't think its dead nuts on but when I run my numbers it does not make sense. I punch in RPM, gears, tire size, 3rd gear ratio ect

I mean, I am under no illusion I should be in the 140 mph range. But 130s should be in the picture.
I re did the numbers, its 22% slip, not 30%.
Still, not very good.
I just want my E.T.-MPH to match my weight and 60 foots and the finish line RPM.
I am easily out 60 footing much lighter 10 flat cars.
The converter seems to be the issue.
When I get the fresh PTC in I will know more. Maybe I will call Hughes and see what they have to say-or sell me on. If there is a better converter, I want it.

Opinion; i was big on keyboard racing opinion that the less slip is better for Street/Strip (duh) and also for high acceleration ( as if the ECM) had magical converters.

Optimal Slip is whatever LANGER's TQ converters slip is. Probably low but i dunno.

Does that calculator take into account tire growth and if its a radial or not?

I had a Redneck that slipped 13% - it's too much.

I like to think I lucked out, regardless I'm not complaining about the performance. Flashes to 5000 rpm and slips 6.8%. I spec'ed it for a 600 Hp motor.

I run a big tire car with one of those generic 632 engines(with a whole bunch of juice)...It has been a [email protected] with 11% at the stripe...We tightened it up last week and will be testing on Wednesday night...Hoping to drop 2-3% and gain ET and MPH...If it works, we'll tighten it up until it stops gaining, or we get to the 4-5% range...22% and I wouldnt even take it to the track...

I am getting my numbers off the racepak...But, doing the math with the finish line engine, and driveshaft, rpm gives me the same information...

It won't be going back to the track until I get my PTC back in.
Also waiting for a call back from Hughes. I gave them all my info today.

What is your Et/mph? Rear gear and tire size?

One of my SS buddies said he did not care what the % was as long as the car went faster!. Ideally a data recorder and driveshaft rpm vs engine rpm.

Or looking at rpm in the traps then comparing mph to gear ratio etc but tire growth screws that up some.

Even at that 22% I made it to the quarter finals of a 1000$ winner take all bracket race. I broke out by .001 on the last run hitting the brakes hard, but not hard enough.
I think data logging would be great and all. Buts its not cheap and I just bracket race.
Hughes called me back and they suggested their Pro-V Series 94 9" converter. 1138 $ But they do not take Pay Pal. And tell me I can not buy it through Summit where I can use Pay Pal and get that same converter for the same price.
The guy at Hughes must be on a sales commission because he got kinda funny when I asked about Summit. I do a lot of pay in 4 stuff.
At any rate my PTC is also a 9" and stalls in the same range the Hughes does so I might as well try it first.

Have you tried a thicker fluid ?
I went to a thicker hydrualic fluid and made mine perfect.
