It's not my car. It belongs to a friend who picks up old cars and sells them for scrap. I spotted the car and told him I'll see if I can find a buyer to keep this mostly complete classic from the crusher. I'm not a pontiac guy. Classic chrysler is my wheel house.. in the process of restoring a 72 imperial Le baron 2 door. I got my imperial from the same guy who has the Grand Prix. Most of the cars he brings in are incomplete. When he gets any classic that's almost complete I try to find a buyer for him. To many classic cars are gone to the crusher. I do my part to save the ones that I come across when I can

The motor mounts for the 428/455 are different from 69/70 and will discern the year also. 70 has the 3 hole block to mount attachment with a single roughly 4-5 inch long, 7/16" bolt running front to back easily seen from under the front of the bumper area.

69 has a 2 hole attachment to the block, and has a roughly 1 inch long 1/2" bolt running at a 45 degree angle into the motor mount rubber. You have to be under the car to see the 69 mount system because the front crossmember obstructs it when viewed from the front. The motor mounts were completely redesigned from 69 to 70.

Having owned both years when I was running my oval track GP, this was an easy way to discern what year the chassis was on parts cars I bought.

For anyone who's interested in buying that Grand Prix, 69 or 70 model, apparently we're not sure but it's all there. J&J metals in Tecumseh Oklahoma is who has the car. John said $1,500 and it's yours to restore. His number is(405) 642 0126
I posted the VIN number so whoever wants to figure it out. He's probably going to have the crusher out the middle of next month so whoever wants it better get it before it's nothing but crushed scrap metal

Well, after driving all night straight through to the hottest place on earth and then back... it's home. It took some time to pull it out of the weeds and load it... I about passed out towards the end in the 95 degree heat. Don't know if I'm just getting old, but no sleep and OK heat about did me in lol.

Anyway, the seller was a great guy and helped out a ton to get it on the trailer and strapped down. He's retired but sitting on about many acres filled with good scrap steel to sell. Not much left for collectible cars although he did have a 72 square body that might be worth saving.

This is a 69 SJ Matador red w/black top and black knit interior. It looks like everything original is there, no part swaps, and correct and the body, frame, trunk, floors, are surprisingly solid. It must be dry and desert-like there because the Cordova top is in rags yet no rust holes around windows or anywhere on roof.... amazing. The red dirt reminded me of Talladega. I believe the tabs read 1991 when it was parked and it looks like it's unmolested minus the rats nests. I did get the motor to spin but then I hit the couch and haven't touched it since. Putting some Coopers on the original rallys Monday and I'll start playing with it next weekend.

Looks great! It's just heating up down here, we've actually been blessed w weeks of high '70's- 80's & near coastal Florida rains everyday. Glad to see you made it home safely!

Am now betting the '69 SJ sold new in Texas. Be interesting when you get a PHS invoice. Mention that as State of OK didn't (& doesn't) require front license plates /very very rare to run across a front plate bracket on an OK ordered Pontiac.

Definitely the factory location for '69 & 70 Grand Prizs when equipped w the front plate bracket.

Front plates required in Minnesota. Not sure if it applies to collector plates.

Front plates required in Illinois also. I have not put on a front license plate since the late 60s. I think they just spoil the looks of most cars!!!!!
