I saw Sabbath in 78 or 79, Van Halen was the opener. I saw Blizzard of Ozz in 1980, the original line-up of Randy Rhoads, Rudy Sarzo, Tommy Aldridge, and Ozzy.

Was a big Sabbath fan early on. RIP Ozzy!

Sabbath was a big part of the soundtrack from my days as a misspent youth, & Ozzy was a bonified nut on stage. I'll never forget a show at Madison Square Garden Felt Forum (a theater below the garden) with Zakk Wylde on guitar. Ozzy practically incited a riot with the fans during the encore of Crazy Train. He was pulling fans up on stage inviting them to "all go f'ing crazy" It quickly turned into one big mosh pit on stage. Some amps & other equipment got knocked over, then suddenly right in the middle of the song, the power was cut on stage, the houselights went on, and the PA announced that the show was over, & please exit the building. My buddy & I barely got out of there with our skin that night.
RIP Ozzy, thanks for the great memories.

Grew up listening to Sabbath in the '70's. Blizzard of Oz was released my senior year of high school. Lifetime fan of Heavy Metal music due to Sabbath.. Thank you for the music. Rest In Power, Ozzy.

My Ozzy story:
July 17, 1981.
I was a drummer in a metal band from Edmonton. As such, we used to have a few girls hanging around. One was a legendary groupie who was well connected. After the concert, she suggested that we head over to the Four Seasons hotel, as she knew that they were staying there. We walk into the lobby, and there they all are, sitting in the Piano bar. I walked right over and asked Ozzy if we could visit. Their manager came up and said "c'mon, guys, what the f**k are you doing?" I stood up to leave, when a younger looking blonde guy said "let them stay, they're not hurting anybody." It was Randy Rhoads. We went up to their hotel room and hung around for about 3 hours. I thanked Randy, and he said "no worries, I was in your place just a few years ago". I also met my absolute hero, drummer Tommy Aldridge, whom I admired even more than Neil Peart. They were all great, but Ozzy was a maniac. He ordered a whole tray of Salt and Pepper shakers, which he smashed every one of them with a nine iron. Rudy Sarzo sent me down to their band bus, the same one that Randy and their hairdresser collided with in a plane, to grab his base guitar. I couldn't believe it. I was floating on air at that point. They drank and did so much cocaine (not Randy, though), that you'd think it was the end of the tour. Afterwards, Ozzy said "Ok you guys, get the f**k out", which we did. Randy and Rudy just gave me a knowing glance and Randy said "take it easy, I hope you make it". He was a great guy in my short experience. I'll never forget that day. Less than a year later, I of course heard the tragic news that he died when they were f'n around in the plane and he was killed in a collision with the bus. I was heartbroken, but thankful for the short time that I was exposed to a world that I never though I'd see.

Ozzy was my first concert - it was awesome.

A deeply flawed man, and I hope the best for him regarding the afterlife - we are all flawed beings after all - I don't recall reading in his biography that he accepted the Lord...

His bio book was quite good... assuming you can deal with so many f-bombs - I earnestly try to keep my language clean, and some people, when they read or hear swears, they find themselves saying them...
When I was done reading his bio - it's one I kept.

Can I ask the band name?
Just wondering if (assuming you guys put out a record) if I have it - I was listening to a record a short while back, and came to realize it was an Edmonton group from around that time period.

The band was called Archangel. We were just a cover band, never did record anything. Frankly, we were fooling ourselves thinking that we would go anywhere.
I did get to play with a band later on that had a song on the radio, though. A band called Darkroom. They were a "new wave" band with a minor hit called Test of Time. They broke up after the record company dropped them. Fun times, though. Except for the living in Edmonton part, which I'm sure you could understand.

Have always loved Ozzy's work, especially those early Black Sabbath albums...Vol 4 is my favorite.

I remember when the first album came out. It was incredible! Title track right off the bat was my favorite. 1970




Saw Sabbath twice. Once with Ozzy and once with Dio. Ozzy was out of control.
