I would pull the carb off, prob it up on 2 blocks, fill the carb and see if it leaks. Give it some time. Could be the well plugs (yes- I know epoxy sealed) or casting porosity.
old Q jets can get leaky.
If you must go to a pusher pump, the Carter P4602rv comes with a bypass/check valve arrangement.
It's true that fuel can be drawn through Carter elec. pumps, but it becomes a restriction at higher speeds.

Thanks for the advice on the pump but I've given up on the pusher pump idea. I'm just going full electric in-tank. As far as possible leaking, anything can happen but this carb I have on it is a freshly restored carb that was professionally done including sealing the well plugs. Based on the evaporation tests done in the other thread that's going on and what my carb does, I don't really suspect a leak.
