My collection of 1969 Firebird PHS's just hit 200. Still a very low number compared to my GTO collection of invoices but starting to have some statistical value now. For fun here are some tidbits:

136 Hardtops (including 43 TA's) and 64 ragtops (including 1 TA)
8 RAIV cars (4 are TA's)
68 400 HO cars (includes 40 TA's and 13 cars ordered with hood air inlet)
61 regular 400 cars, 19 350 HO's, 37 350 2bbl's, 3 Sprints and 3 base (250 1 bbl)
88 TH400, 20 TH350, 4 two spd auto, 73 M20 and 12 M21's
2 with bench seat
45 dog dish
130 R2 wheels
68 safe t track (34% of all cars)
6 cars with special order axles, 1 with econo axle and 7 with perf axle
8 cars with no radio
3 cars ordered with dual exhaust option (350 2bbl only)
137 with power steering
111 with power brakes (only ten of these had power drums)
67 have the custom interior (including 4 leather and two bench seats)
18 with the folding rear seat

BTW, I heard somewhere that you couldn't get AC with a manual transmission on 69 Firebirds but I see examples of both 350's and 400 with 4 spd and AC

Most common color is Cameo at 57 examples but if you don't count TA's:

The color choices are quite different than on the GTO's.

In my listing there are a total of 14 cars with an optional axle ratio ordered. Pontiac (GM I guess) marketed optional axle ratios under three different option codes: The economy axle option, The performance axle option and then special order axle option. The first two were typically a bit lower or higher than the standard axle and special order axles were those further away (up or down) from the standard ratio. If you look at the axle charts in the original MPC (parts catalogue) or shop manual you can see the different choices. With certain drive train combinations you could not order some or any optional axle ratios. Generally speaking the choices were being more and more restricted in the late 60's and especially into the 70's.

There are some odd restrictions on 69 Firebirds, for example: you could special order the 4.33 ratio on the regular 400 but not on the Ram Air IV for some reason.

North, I had to look at my old 69 convertible phs and I couldn't believe that it had a remote deck lid option. (only owned it for a few years then sold it to my brother)
I never knew it!
Asked my wife and she said she never saw it.

Were they in the glove box?

yes, A black button on the top left corner inside the glovebox, you could never it was there. Unless you had 8 tracks jammed in the glovebox, then you were often accidently popping open the trunk when reaching in for a tap. I think that's why they replaced the black rod style button with a flush blue button in 1970.

In my listing about 15% (29 cars) had the option.

btw, here are the options that I so far have no examples of:
two tone with a special order color
3 spd HD floor shift (only optional on 350 2bbl- standard of 350HO and 400 models)
spare tire cover (only offered on fullsized spare
deluxe belts with shoulder straps front and rear (available for hardtops and convertibles)
custom wheelcover (the five spoke hub cap that looks like a rally 2 wheel a bit
HD 55 amp alternator (standard with AC but offered optionally on non AC cars)
clutch fan (standard on AC cars but optional on non AC)
HD rad (standard on AC cars but optional on non AC)
Fullsized spare (offered in early production when the compact spare was standard)
E70 tire with redline (only available on six cylinder with 1 bbl

Interesting. Have you ever pinged PHS and asked them to give it up already? If we all knew there was a unicorn and you owned it, how much would you pay for the "Martini" version of the PHS? Also, is the rarest option the speed mider speedo?

Kudos to you for taking the time to tally some of the data. That can be a lot of work.

How do you acquire them? When posted on the net and so forth? Cool info! Do people give you them?

Speed minder is low take but not necessarily the lowest, typically on non perf cars.

I acquire them mostly from internet posted auctions or listings like CL etc. people send me them sometimes. Btw, I only enter a car on the spreadsheet if I have the PHS, a build sheet or an original (not reprint) window sticker. I also built in a bunch of error checking code to minimize data entry errors.

190 is a nice sized percentage of total 70 TA production.

What I enter for each car is VIN, color trim codes, invoice prefix, dealer order number, all options ordered, total retail, shipping cost and dealer code and city state.

I wish I was more skilled so I could enter all this in a database instead of excel.

my 69 carousel red was born with 6 cyl 1 barrel 3 speed on the floor no console and AC. it was pretty wheezy until the 455 replaced the 6 popper

I have a convertible 6cyl 1bbl with a 2 SPS auto on the column. It has leisurely acceleration for sure. It has a standard 3.23 axle. The optional economy axle was a 2.56, I can imagine that would really slow it up further!

68 was the year of no AC with a manual trans except the 1bbl OHC-6.

How are you collecting the PHS info? Copies from owners? As you’re not showing any with the M13 Heavy duty Dearborn 3 speed assuming you don’t have any. My T/A is one of the those with that standard trans option if you’d like any info….. It is also a dog dish car…

Too bad it wasn't a three on the tree with a front bench seat. I love those uber cheap 6 bangers. I've always wanted a 69 Sprint 3OTT.

Mostly from internet auctions and eBay-CL etc but owners sometimes send them to me, feel free to do so if you like!

Sprint came standard with the non HD three on the floor so you couldn't get a Sprint with 3OTT. Same thing with the 400's but the 350's and the base six were standard with 3OTT.

Great info. Mine is two-tone HT Winward-Cameo (87-50 color codes). Regular 400 4-speed.
