Congratulations!

Now it’s time to buy at least one more project car to keep busy.

3 years almost since I retired at 63, which is too late but as early as I could justify.

I’m managing (mismanaging ) a few builds/drivetrain/suspension upgrades right now, without projects to stay busy it gets boring.

I could get another car. I've thought about it. I don't know. If I did I'd need more shop space, which is not out of the question.

Here's the real problem. I'm not inherently a lazy person but I am a procrastinator. When things need to get done, they get done. But if they can wait, they may wait. Some sayings I like are "never do today what you can put off until tomorrow" and "procrastination is the soul rebelling against oppression".

Who knows, maybe I am lazy. But if I am, I've earned it.

One of the great things about being retired....

I used to golf on weekends - amidst all the crowds.

Now I don't golf on weekends. I'll be heading out soon to get 18 in (in MN - yes it's November and the temp will be in the 40's when I tee off - but I'm not a fair weather golfer) and will probably finish my round in less than 2.5 hours.

I still enjoy weekends, as I don't have to fight the masses to do things I've already done during the week.

Turning 60 next year and would love to retire from the current high-stress job (not working altogether), but I don't have the 1.3M in my pocket they say I must have (not sure I ever will). I envy anyone who can. <cheers>

Did my SS appointment today and made it official .
Been semi-retired for about 20 years.

Might get back into golfing a little this spring - been about 15 years since my last round.
Dirt bikes have been my golf , should have time for both.

Congrats! My wife and I are doing the same thing at the end of the year. I’ll be 61 and she’s 60, I figured I could find something part time if she needs me out of the house a couple of days a week lol

I just flipped the 68 calendar a few weeks ago. I will continue until I reach 70, that's when my better half hits full retirement age. Truth is I've been ready since November 2021 when my company threatened to fire all the personnel that wouldn't get the COVID shot. I did get the shot well before that but there were several very key people that woiuld have been shown the door. Damn if I was going to bust my a** trying to pick up the pieces. Thankfully, they thought better of it.

I retired at 61 about 3 1/2 years ago and definitely have no regrets!! It’s so awesome to have a flexible schedule and also to spend more time with family and friends.

I know...kinda shocked me when I read online. A few sources say $1-1.3M, but who's splitting hairs. I don't have near that either.

We have no debt and don't live a lavish lifestyle, so thinking I may make a go of it soon. I don't want my $ (no kids) to outlast my body/mind , which are beginning to betray me already. No pension though...which sounds like a lot of you have, so relying on savings (and whatever work I can manage) and eventually SS.

Can check your actual projected SS monthly retirement online.
You do have to. create a sign-in account on the SS.gov website.
It will pro rate for different retirement ages.

Waiting until 67 to collect would not start paying off until I reached 80 .
Others mileage may vary.

If you stay working until 67+ though, all the more income for those 5 years.

There is an excellent social security calculator that helps couples decide when to take their social security. The website is a free private site, so you will need to input the amounts that you are eligible for at your full retirement age. It also has an interactive table has the claiming age on the horizontal and vertical access, which allows you to click around and experiment with different claiming ages and see the effect. The SS.Gov website has a slide scale measure that will show you your different benefit amounts month by month.
For example if you wanted to know your benefit amount at 62
Then 62 and 3 months , 62 and 7 months , 66 and 2 months , etc...

My benefit was actually a little higher at 62 - than it was predicted to be 2 years ago.
Most years have a cost of living increase.
