Reinvigorating this post, as I'm finally in a position to get my '64 Bonneville Rally Gauges installed over the winter. If the last 15 years has shed any light on the subject, I'd love to hear it.

Forgive my annoying questions ahead of time.

Default 63-64 Full size Pontiac aux gauges

Here are some photos of Full size gauges I had and sold 25 years ago.

The pink wire is 12 volts battery + (key on) power. I would add in 10 or 15 amp fuse into that wire.

The grey wire is 12 volts + via the headlamp switch. This wire is for your night time dash lights.

The dark blue wire runs from the back of the oil pressure gauge to the sender & the green wire runs from the back of the temperature gauge to the sender.

Not shown in the photo is the power wire for the clock. Given the year of this car it would likely be an orange wire with a black stripe. It has 12 volts battery + power all the time.

The clock, and both gauges all need a ground. These get ground from the cast potmetal housing; in-turn bolts into the very large chrome dash bezel.

To that would add a separate ground wire (black) from the rear of this set (the steel housing-pods) routed underneath the dash to a solid steel bracket or support. Add your own drilled hole and a #6 or #8 self-tapping sheet metal screw with a star washer to give you an extra ground besides the factory ground at the chrome-plated potmetal.
