Has anyone had issues with replacement engine mounts, 1963 Cat
Ordered a set from USA, been 6 months and still "pending" Found a set in Australia, got delivered and went to put engine in..... Bolts would start, but only a thread or so, hmmm, abandoned install and pulled new motor mounts, don't have the old ones to compare as they were toast so junked them. At 1st I thought it was just the threads galled up a bit, cleaned them with a tap Then..... The tap bottomed out pretty quickly.... Realised the threaded hole was only 0.400" deep at best, no room for the factory style bolt, let alone with a non threaded pilot section. There is a steel plate with what looks like weld spatter at the base of the threaded hole ???? Does anyone have a stock mount they can compare ? I can shorten a bolt, but will end up with around 0.350" engagement ona 1/2" bolt ? Mount is by Westar, part number EM-2205, that's one side, other side is different, same issue

Yup, I didn't have a choice really, the stuff I ordered from USA is still 6 months on back order.
These are Westar, (Mexico ?/) but I suppose the EX USA non available are just the same...... Not really happy with only 0.350" engagement on a 1/2" bolt..... Option to drill out the plate and tap deeper ?? A pic of a factory one would be great if possible, mines long gone in the trash !!!!

Sorry, I don't know how difficult the parts may be to get into the country. But our sponsor Ames, lists both sides in stock. Rock auto lists the right side only in stock from Pioneer. Seem to be readily available all over E-bay as well.. Trying to work with what you have, Probably need to set the mounts in a mill and clean out the hole as deep as you can. Then run a bottoming tap into the cleaned out holes. I would think you would want a minimum of .500 of actual thread engagement. That's the minimum recommended for a 1/2" bolt. You could grind off the pilot area off the factory bolt to gain a little engagement. The pilot is just an assembly aid on the line.

Left and right mounts will interchange. The left mount has a tab that will stop the engine from rising up if the rubber in the mount breaks. The right does not have the tab but is otherwise the same. Using 2 left mounts would present no problem. Using 2 right mounts would only be a problem if the one on the left broke.

I have contacted the manufacturer, and they said they had sold 200 sets a year with no issue ?????. They are looking into it though, as mine could be a one off ???

Total depth of the hole on one is about 3/4" and closer to 1" on the other, if it helps to keep your project moving I'm quite happy to send them down,Ross 027 221 3171

I put the mounts in the mill, centred up the holes and drilled out the offending section of steel. This left me with enough material to run a 1/2"-20 bottoming tap through and get so.e reasonable thread engagement. If i ever hear back from the manufacturer with an explanation I will let you know. Cheers
