Had a mobile PDR guy come out to the house and fix a spot on the TA hood where someone tried closing the hood with tools still in engine bay. It came out perfect. I took pics before and after, but the ping wasn't visible with my cheap phone camera. So both pics looked the same.

The Comp is now on Bring A Trailer and off to a slow start: https://bringatrailer.com/listing/19...c-firebird-28/

Visited 71GP76TA's previous employer to get some tires mounted, then used the Ventura to jump the Javelin to get it started for the first time.

Lemans running rough so i checked vacuum. gauge (direct manifold) bouncing fast between 5-22. Checked intial timing its 14. Starts every time. I've basically just been moving it in and out if the garage and maybe around the block since i got the TA a couple years ago. I need to check adjustments on the carb, do a compression check and leak down test. Thinking it could possible be head gasket I have mulitiple exhaust manifold leaks and one rocker thats not getting as much oil flow over it as the others as well

Really would like to pull the engine and focus on everything but the short block. Kinda inspect and go over to include engine paint a reinstall.

Just don't feel that the engine has ever run to its true potential. I installed it about 15 yrs ago by my self (1st engine swap). I think i can do a better job now since i know a little more than I did back then.

Could be head gasket, take a compression test.
It might be sticking valves or misfire also.

Don't rule out a cracked distributor cap.

Separated the 2 parts of my valley pan to clean the inside...not really that dirty. I'll weld it back together when I get back to the barn. Then some nice DE1616.

Moved it out of the rear half of my garage for the first time in a few months. I’m going to put some summer miles on it after I rejet the middle carb and change out the venturi cluster to achieve a leaner setup in the pursuit of better fuel efficiency.

Was moving cars around so I could put my ‘66 VW pickup into the rear garage to swap out the old 50hp 1600 for a 140hp 2276.

Such a fantastic collection of vehicles! I’m sure that getting those tri-power motor carbs setup properly is not an easy task!

That’s gonna wake up that VW truck for sure! Have fun!

When the guy was taking the ding out i told him it might have been there for 30 years or more. Lol. Best part was he only charged 75.00, but he got me for a grand to fix my daily driver. It had a 13" dent.

^^^ your VWs look amazing. my wife's from Rio .. I'm blown down every time I visit. they take their old VWs very serious down there ^^^

my motor went in very late last season so I never really got to take care of some pretty bedrock issues I was having till these past couple of weeks:
- I was losing <all> power randomly .. and very often in the middle of traffic. ha. turned out to be the main hot connector on the cabin side of bulkhead connector wasnt locked into block. it would push out.
- pertronix was not getting anywhere near enough Vs at "start" .. was having some really spectacular startup's. setup w/ relay now so getting fully battery Vs at run/start.
night and day difference: car's starting easily, even in the cold and will snap your neck through the rpm's ; )
- wasnt getting more than 12.5v at alternator/battery ... new regulator today took care of that and battery's getting charged properly now.

looking forward to digging into the carb and timing once we get some warm days!

Picked up the new RA-IV repro intake from Reher-Morrison after they did some port match work. Hopefully this solves my cold temp vs high temp idle speed variation.

I switched from an old set of Mickey Thompson ET Street 30x12.5x15 bias ply tires to a Mickey Thompson radial slick 29.5x10.5x15. I drove it around a bit on the street and the difference in stability is night and day. The tail end isn’t dancing around like it used to.
A+ would recommend

I noted a sizable 1/2" gap in the top above the frame rails when the top was up but did not address it. Today I examined it after removing the rear weatherstrip segment - the top hold down cable had broke at the rear eye. Evidently a stress location. My wife will return from the States after tax season so will order replacement from Ames. It lasted 30 years and many cycles since Dad and I installed it - a bit faded but still no rips (wood knocking!).

Weatherstrip seems pretty stiff, forgot how soft new ones are supposed to be - maybe a good soak in silicone will perk them up?
