The X and Ultraflows I have on my 78 TA and the Camaro/IA are pretty quiet.
The 3" on my TA ran the same with the 3" mandrel tailpipes as the car did open headers-with the weight of the system added! The IA has a 3.5" X and narrows to 3" Ultraflows and tailpipes.

My car is reasonably quiet with 3 inch x Ultraflows and tailpipes..but at full throttle..I have no clue what the decibels are. Nice thing with them they are tough mufflers.

Wow....the first track day is in the books and it was big fun and a huge driving challenge!!
First off....most everybody was driving things like late-model Corvettes, Mustangs, a few Porsches, a Lamborghini. I had the only vintage musclecar (and only Pontiac....no surprise). The car got big attention. People making their way over to oooh and ahhh. A few quotes..."It even has rollup windows"..... "This makes me want to build something like this" There's a lot of the track that disappears downhill and can't be seen from the viewing stands. Wife and daughter reported that they could follow the distinctive Pontiac V8 sound and knew exactly when I was on the throttle. Engine performed flawlessly. Mike proved again his engine-building expertise!! There's so much torque on tap that I had to roll on the power pretty carefully coming out of corner or it wanted to get tail happy. I flirted with that a couple of times and learned to respect the throttle. I experimented with shifting. Some laps, I used 2nd, 3rd and 4th gear. Other laps I just left it in 3rd the whole time. Enough torque over a wide enough power band that the car didn't care. Thanks to 482 cubes and Tim's Bullet SFT cam for that. After sitting in the garage for a few years waiting for me to finish the car, I think the tires felt less grippy than I expected. I suspect that a fresh set of tires will be a big help. The Super T-10 was perfect for the task. Rear gear is a 3.50. I might change it to a lower number someday to tone down the axle torque and give it some more top speed. Low priority for now. I ran 2 sessions. I skipped the 3rd after Mike spotted some gear lube wetting down the bottom of the car. I'll know better when I get it on the lift, but I think it's probably needing me to do something better for the axle housing breather. Giant Wilwood non-power brakes were awesome! Zero fade. Some laps I used the brakes a lot, some laps I used engine braking more. Again, the car didn't care. And I was completely in "try stuff" mode. The aluminum IA2 block and other weight reduction mods made the car pretty neutral handling. None of the typical 2nd Gen F-body understeer. My head is spinning with ideas this morning. ![]() Eric

Yes, everybody in Street and Lead/Follow were muffled. The Race class probably had open exhaust but I didn't get to watch them.

Good for you. I always wanted a road race TA. Money! I can't imagine the feeling. I watch vids of that guy in Europe with a TA. Love to hear the sound. Good driving.

Great to hear the first outing did well!
I noted you had stated earlier you were running a wet sump and some sort of oil cooler. Are you running the cooler in-line and using the engine pump for that? Or are you running some type of scavenge pump from the pan directly? I'm getting conflicting statements on the need to have a scavenge pump for an oil cooler vs running a cooler from the factory style pump. Did you monitor oil temps at all? If so, what did they look like?

Thanks for the info. I’m not certain I’ve ever seen one of the VSE oil coolers.
Perhaps I’m over-thinking this. My plan has been to use the Nitemare Performance remote filter setup and plumb an oil cooler in-line with that. I’ve been getting info that the engine pump won’t handle that however.

I'm not familiar with the Nitemare filter. A larger oil cooler will have less pressure drop if all channels are in parallel. I measure oil pressure downstream of filter and cooler and get consistent 80 psi from a Melling pump with Tin Indian bottom plate.
When I go to the garage, I'll send the part number of my cooler Eric
