Your Honeycomb project looks great to me. Looking for a little advice on mine if you don’t mind. I have some on a 72 GP that are honestly in pretty good condition with just some minor blemishes. They may have been touched up before. I really just want to give them a fresh topcoat using the OER Magnesium. What type of sanding and primer should I be doing and using. I can post pics later.

Give it a rest, gets real tiring when you keep bashing anyone who doesnt do what you do... just because paints are in a spray can doesnt mean they arent good quality, you can have dupont, PPG or any brand paint put in a spray can at auto paint stores, Ive had it done for touch ups or smaller parts. Plenty of body shops use all kinds of SEM products... they are sold at auto body paint suppliers too.

Thanks, Im very happy with them doing similar to the HPP article, countless other people on here & out there in the real world have done the same with excellent results... the rally 2 & HC wheels I did are 10+ years old and look like the day I did them...

If yours are as nice as you say and just need a top coat, I would skip the heavy sanding or primer & just scuff up the current paint if its in good condition, meaning not dried out or chipping/flaking... if the paint is good and no chips or damage to fill with a 2 part epoxy product, You can probably just use a medium grit sand paper like 400 to scuff the surface then spray with the OER magnesium paint, it covers very good so if its just a top coat 1 can will probably do all 4 wheels with 2 medium coats. But if you go further & need primer, the SEM flexible prinmer mentioned in teh article works great. Whatever you decide is important to clean them very good of any dirt, grease, wax, etc, standard prep procedures when painting anything.

Also ive read & found doing a small test, is that this paint OER paint doesnt like clear coats, it will dull the light "sparkle" and silver color, rally2 paint isnt effected like this OER paint that has a slight texture to it. But if they arent on a daily driver or car that sees high miles, the OER will hold up & clean up very good for many years to come.

With that said, there are better ways to do these like buying paint and spraying with a gun or having a pro do them, but using the paint/process explained in the HPP article will have very good results.

I need some help on this Honeycomb project. I top coated one rim on the left, but had to primer the second then top coat on the right. The result is two very different colors and looks. The left keeps the original look from what I can tell but not sure what to do next. The other 3 rims could all probably be just top coated to match. Thoughts, ideas and help please.
