Default BathTub intake v2.0

I had some open spindle time to I developed a new version of the venerable bathtub intake repop.

This new version uses the same bathtub base and adds a billet lid converting the entire setup to full sequential EFI, with a front style throttle body.

Not sure if anybody is interested in this, but it turned out pretty good so I'll go ahead and post it up. If there is an interest in this EFI Bathtub, let me know I will create the casting patterns to lower costs. Currently it is available only as a billet, which is expensive. As a casting, it will be comparable in price to the original.

If you already have a Bathtub v1.0 (carbureted) you can convert to EFI by sending the base back and I can rework it for the injector bosses (NO welding) and then buy a new lid.

Before we get into the pictures, some highlights:

- The injector rails are hidden underneath in the valley, which conceals the fuel rails, injectors, and injector harnesses making for a clean installation.

- The overall height is very low profile, quite a bit lower than a factory carb/air cleanser setup, and should fit under the hood with ease.

- Vacuum provisions are provided in a "panel" at the rear of the manifold, above the distributor, provisions are for power brakes, auto trans, MAP, and manifold referenced vacuum for the fuel regulator. If not needed these can be plugged. Provision is also provided for a MAT sensor by the front throttle blade.

- This can be used N/A, or also in turbo, Procharger, or Torque Storm force induction.

- Clears stock and aftermarket valley pans w/front PVC.

- Throttle body sizes from 90 mm to 102 mm are supported. Shown is a 92 mm.

It started with a 100 lb block of aluminum and ended up weighing 7 lbs. when completed.

After about 40 hrs. of spindle time, it's starting to look like an intake:

Finished lid mounted on original bathtub base casting:

That's impressive work!!
Are you going to run it on one of your cars?
I hope some people crack open the checkbook and get some more made.

That’s a beautiful piece of work!
I sure hope you can get people to purchase some. I don’t currently have an application for one but if I did I would be lining up.
Who says you need an LS!

That really looks neat and clean. I like the low profile as well. I always disliked the cluttered look on top with LS engines. Hiding the fuel rails, no 8 coils like an LS, the Pontiac EFI looks great. The famous bathtub got thrown into a time machine. Nice job.

Beautiful machine work!

Looks great. I like the rails mounted underneath, and it leaves the topside available for additional rails and injectors.

Do you have a picture with say 4bbl throttle bodies on it to make it look like carbs but still really EFI? Do you have a picture of the bottom with the top removed to see where the injectors are angled at in relation to the intake ports? Any testing done with this set up yet?

Okay that’s super cool! I know you said it’s lower profile, but do you happen to have a measurement of the peak height? I have a second gen TA and hood clearance is limited. Would you have an option to place the fuel rails in a traditional configuration? 105mm throttle body option?

This is freaking awesome! The cost is somewhat prohibitive for me (assuming more than the bathtub 1.0), but I hope you get a bunch of buyers.

Any idea what kind of power band you'd expect on a 460+" engine?

It's designed to fit a 2nd Gen F body, we will be doing a fit check on one soon. I will take some photos when we do the check. You can move the fuel rails to the traditional position if you like, this requires bungs as the manifold walls are not thick enough here to support the injectors. We can add these to the casting without much difficulty, if there is enough interest in moving the project forward into a casting.. As is, the manifold is sized for up to a 102 mm TB, if you want to use a 105 MM I can make a simple adapter.

I put up a post on Facebook to see the reaction, and got a pretty good response so I've decided to proceed with production tooling to cast these. If you're a Facebook guy, you can see the exchange here:

https://www.facebook.com/groups/pont...97752158184201

I'm working on the casting patterns now. The patterns will be machined in house and delivered to the foundry for production casting. So its look like the project is a go. I am taking pre-orders now as there will be an initial casting run of 10 pieces and these will be pre-sold. If you are interested in getting on the list send me an email at [email protected], the first 10 names get an intake. $2500 total plus shipping. No deposits will be taken until the casting tooling is done and we have first articles as foundries are notoriously slow.

For the quality of work, $2,500 is a bargain, but why is it everytime you come up with one of these jewels I’m having a joint replaced?
