Always cars for me. I could spend hours building them as a kid.
Did my last build a few years ago after not building anything for decades. This was a long and slow build and have to admit not as fun as i remember ![]() My fondest memories are going into the Hobby Shops. Seeing this video really brought back some of those great memories; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DJ_gNWp3U6Q

WOW!! memories, I built a few of those model kits, Red Baron And Rommels Rod are two that I remember. Built a few of the airplane models, but quit when my folks would not let me hang them from my bedroom ceiling, {no holes or tape}.
Airplane models just didn't look right sitting on a shelf... Thanks for sending me off down that memory lane...... |

My dad got me started with models in the mid-sixties. He would buy models of the cars he had once owned, 34-36-40-56-64 Fords. He was also into Sprint/Indy cars and would buy the 1/18 metal versions.
At the time I was into planes from WW 2 aircraft to the Vietnam era. Add some Mercury, Gemini and Apollo rocket ships, my room was a maze of planes hanging from the ceiling. Photo (excuse the dust) is a Sprint car model dad bought in the late 50s.

As a kid, I built dozens of models, all of the visible engines, plus the mazda rotary, some planes, some ships, 1/8 scale General Lee, 1/8 scale AC Cobra, a handful of semi trucks, and more 1/24 cars than i could possibly remember. I loved the detail in the 1/8 scale stuff. The General Lee was a legit NASCAR chassied machine with the whole roll cage, suspension, etc. Did a few metal models too. I remember when the paint was 3 cents, then 5 cents, then 10, etc. Eventually had to buy the glue at the cash register.
One of my favorites was the Bad Man 55 gasser. imagine my surprise - someone made a model of the car i currently have. The did a really good job!

This is when it became addicting
Started out small and became a long expensive safari. Towards the end the hard to find kits were off the charts in prices. I finally stopped in the mid 90's and have liquidated all my kits, Diecast, and other small Pontiac accretions. I've enjoyed it all, but knew it was time to put it back out there. Good Times!
