Hello Folks!

Bit of an embarrassing situation here. I have a 1970 Pontiac 400 numbers matched to the car that I removed for a rebuild. Also, worth noting it is a manual vehicle; and I have the clutch and flywheel mounted.

When attempting to reinstall I cannot get it to settle in for the life of me. I have purchased new engine mounts from Ames and after grinding too much new actual frame engine mounts from Inline Tube. I have confirmed both sets of mounts are accurate to the vehicle.

Essentially, I can get one mount to go on perfectly but then the other is slightly raised or off set and won't settle down. No amount of wiggling, crow bars or re-dropping is solving this for me. Just wondering if there is a trick or tip I am missing.

Worth noting I have a 1970 Pontiac Grand Prix had no trouble installing that motor. Also, just noting no frame damage or anything of that nature. Thank you all!

Just a guess, try swapping the mounts from one side to the other on the engine, also with the mounts removed see if they will go into position on the frame just by them selves.

Confirming the mounts go in. Also, I have the higher sloped engine frame mount on the driver side and lower on the passenger side. Just copied how it was, when I pulled the motor.

Are those the Torque Lok motor mounts that Ames sells? If so I had the same problem.

Not sure if I remember correctly, but i thought there was a little adjustment possible on the passenger side frame mount. Aren't the holes in the frame for the frame mount slotted allowing some up and down adjustment and if so, would that help at all with getting the mounts to line up? Another thought is that if your frame side mounts are from Inline Tube, and your motor side mounts are from AMES, they may just not be a good match for each other. Do you have the factory frame side mounts?

Ratchet straps around exhaust manifold and frame can be helpful to pull the engine in place. That was a tremendous help to me getting the engine in my 70 firebird. One strap pulling down, and the other side lifting upward with hoist.
