I am looking into buying a quick jack or a similar brand. They all seem to be basically the same in the price range in the 6000# I am looking for.
Does anyone have any input on what they bought or would buy? I do not have the room for a post lift. TIA. |

i have the 7000tlx and it works great. i had a smaller one and took it back it wasn't too stable to me. this one is very stable.
it is heavy and cumbersome to store, but once set up i love it. no access under the car from the sides but with cardboard down its easy to slide under from the back or front. it has worked out great for me.

Thanks....once you had it in place did you just leave it or do you have to disconnect and store it? My thoughts were after the install to just leave it in place and switch out the cars for oil changes and the like.

i had a set of quck jacks 7000 i think, i got them w a car i bought. to be fair i never used them. they seemed well made and def better then nothing, but i sold them for what i paid for one of my used 4 post lifts, if you have the room, 4 post is way to go for even a bit more money.

Unfortunately, when we built the house my attention to the details on the garage height was elsewhere.....no room for the lift.

I have a QJ and I like it. But Like all things it has it's limitations. It's a great way to get the car up quickly (hence the name). But IMO it's better for smaller jobs, oil change, starter fuel pump, brakes. Right now, I'm in the middle of a project that snowballed from a fuel system upgrade into fuel, exhaust, chassis and suspension. For that I chose to put it on jack stands because I thought that access to the fuel lines and doing subframe bushings and subframe connectors would be tougher with the QJ. Then, I ended up deciding to change my exhaust system due to fuel tank access but then after that I realized that I had to drop the whole exhaust system anyway to install the subframe connectors. Most of that would have been way more difficult, and some of it impossible, on the QJ. Also, depending on what car you are lifting, if it's a unibody with front subframe, the subframe will sag a bit which is not a big deal for a small, quick job but I wouldn't want to leave it like that for any length of time. For storage, I just push them together to the center under the car and park on top of them.
All that said, I'm upgrading to a 4 post lift as soon as I'm done with this set of projects. But if you don't have space for that, then the QJ is not a bad option.

If ceiling height is your limitation, a 4 post may still work. For most of them the posts are only about 84" tall. You may not be able to lift the car to the highest point but, you could maybe get it high enough to work under it on a stool or chair? It will cost more but I think that would be way better than a QJ.

i try to have everything mapped out i need to do in advance. use it then store it away. ive done trans swaps rear ends etc..i bet doing exhaust wouldnt be an issue. no room here for a lift either.

It could certainly be done but to me it's so much faster and easier to slide under the car from the side vs from the front or back.

Here's an option to increase you height clearance.

I had a QJ 5000 for several years. Only reason I sold it was I needed to get 4 cars into a 3 car garage.
For my vehicles, I couldn't leave it in place under one of the cars. Both the GTO and the Camaro are lowered to the point that I couldn't clear the QJ. But I found the 5000 easy to move and store the unit vertically on the QJ hangers with the hydraulics still connected and stored on the floor nearby. I found the 5000 to be extremely stable and used it on the Camaro, the GTO, our Equinox and the Cadillac ATS or CT4 that we had during my ownership. 5000 pounds capacity easily handled all those vehicles. I sold the QJ to my brother and he has been using it on his Ford Ranger, Toyota Corolla and his son's Honda Minivan. |

Thanks for all the suggestions and comments, unfortunately the post lift is not something I can do. I agree its easier to slide in from the side but my main goal here is oil changes and tire swaps etc.
