Just posting the incremental progress as I go.
Feel free to point out any MAJOR issues, since I know there are a ton of smaller ones. For sanity sake I leave out minor casting details, casting seams, some bolt holes etc. I'm probably going to go nuts when it's time to line up all the pulleys, hopefully I did a decent job of building adjustable components so I can adjust size and placement. I'm trying desperately to confine my efforts to things that will actually 3d print and show up on a 1/10 scale model. It's hard when it's all blown up on the screen not to add those little realism details that would be way too small to print ![]()

This is the current state of the test prints. The pics don't really do it justice. The larger engine is 1/10 scale, the smaller is 1/24.
Still lots of tweaks to the printing process to get it right. But, you can almost read the intake part number with a magnifying glass ![]()

Excellent!
Design detail is impressive and the printing looks way better than I expected. The intake manifold and timing cover must have been bears but they turned out great. That must be rewarding to see it printed after all you've invested! Thanks for updating the thread. |

65 to 70 is 40 PCT. 65 to 69 fairly easy to find, 70 was only issued in mint sets so pretty hard to find in the wild. Melt value today on a 40 PCT half is $8.93. Don't spend it on candy!

As much agony as I experienced with my fuel system, I couldn't help noticing you modeled a "short can" pump. The model looks perfect, just curious if your car came with a short or tall can pump?

Shiny, actually not sure what the OEM pump was, I'm sure it had been replaced by the time I purchased the car in 76 with something like 88k on the clock. I know I've replaced a couple of time during the life of the car. I based that pump model off what Rock Auto was showing for a 68 pump.
3X24SPD, did you print those out for a linkage mockup or something? That sort of thing is my preferred use for 3d printing ... functional items. This GTO model is probably the only "decorative" item I've ever printed. What kind of printers do you have?

I was just goofing around with CAD modeling one day 15 or 20 years ago.
I was thinking of repurposing my old Nitrous Fogger Injected TriPower Intake that they're sitting on in that pic. Figured I'd pull the fogger nozzles out and throw in some fuel injectors- and use the carbs dry as throttle bodies. So I set out to redesign the carbs in CAD and was going to 3D Print them in Titanium just to be cool & different. I have several 3D Printers. Bought my first Stratasys Dimension when they first came out in the 90s. Best tool to have in the toolbox for prototyping as a Mechanical Design Engineer. Bought a 450MC when those machines came out- as a result of a successful collaboration with Statasys to develop a new high temp high strength static dissipative material with them (Antero 840CNO3). That material has been made commercially available since then. Next was another material development collaboration with EOS in Germany- which resulted in the purchase of a P450 SLS machine. I pretty much use that now exclusively over the FDM- not only because of the higher resolution, but primarily because the builds themselves are isotropic vs the inherent weakness of FDM in the z-axis layering. The material we collaborated on is a PEKK substrate with high carbon loading- which results in impressive volume resistivity. It's a conductive polymer. Was going to buy an EOS 290 DMLS for metal printing a couple years ago- but I couldn't get the target results I needed for the project I was working on. So despite a healthy & impressive CBA with a 3 month payback- I went with MIM for that project. That MIM technology worked out exceptionally well. Latest purchase was something that would have made your initial post endeavor seem quite inaccurate & excessively labor intensive (although the CAD modeling is fun). As a hobbyist though, you would have choked hard on the price tag for that accuracy & convenience.
