I'm currently restoring a 71 Trans am with the 201 Trim. The dash was repainted the wrong color in its former life. I will attach a pic of what was under the dark blue it was painted and looking to see if that color is correct.

Hi Jack. Yes, the lighter blue looks to be what some call "bright blue " , but was just called blue by Pontiac, or at least that is the case for my '70 T/A. I use a SEM lacquer that I got at Year One many years ago for interior color and if you need, I can get a product number off one of the rattle cans that it came in. I was also confused by this reference to the color as my original seat covers looked darker than the bright blue replacement covers and i could not figure out what the color should be as the PHS showed the 201 color code but simply said it was blue. I made the assumption that they were the same as only one shade of blue was offered for interior color in 1970 but it is the 201 or 01 code on the PHS for my car.

Looking at what Legendary Auto Interiors offers for 1971, there is certainly a difference from '70 to '71 with the '71 being quite a bit darker so you may want to look at that and see how it compares to what is in the car you are working on. You can also request samples in order to see it better than in images.

So you're saying the lighter blue paint is under the darker blue on your dash? What is the build date of your car?

BTW, here are the 71 paint codes. Dash paint had a suede additive that created texture.
