Default If you look at the later factory setups, they all use pusher fans for AC cooling help

All of the factory stuff we've fooled around with (mostly 1990s Cadillacs and Chevrolet Suburbans and Silverado trucks) use PUSHER fans that turn on with MAX AC or at a specified temp for additional cooling.

The FWD Cadillacs do have a temperature-controlled 'puller' fan for regular cooling, but the second fan - the one that kicks on for the AC - is a 'pusher'.

Little update. After terrible gas mileage with this Double Pumper and just generally not being satisfied I am having Cliffs former partner Ray Klemm build me a custom quadrajet. Anything I need to know before I make the swap in a couple weeks? I am so stoked

What intake are you running? hopefully something that doesn't require a square bore to spread bore adapter or hood clearance issues most likely in your future

No it’s a Performer RPM. I already have a serious drop base air cleaner

Well I can’t replace the shocks because the 3 inch tail pipes are in the way. I can’t unbolt them and even if I could I can’t get them between the axle tube and the pipe. I’m going Tuesday afternoon to have the pipes cut off and 2.5 inch pipes in their place. Not real happy about crush bent tailpipe but it is what it is.

Those lower shock mount bolts I PM'd a link to you are spaced out by an inch, which helps a lot with exactly the interference you are experiencing.

Thanks I’ll look into those. I am torn between the tips I have and the quarter panel exit. Also how much quieter will it be shrinking the tail pipe diameter. Every little bit would help

Tips that point to the ground or even to the side and down are a little quieter, going to a 2.5 tailpipe will help a little too, but the majority of it comes from the mufflers.

I don't think you can 'cheat' that by much without changing mufflers.

I would think that you should be able to buy some mandrel bent 2-1/2” A-body tail pipes that with some minor tweaks involving a little cutting and welding would work.

My last choice would be crush bent tails fabricated by a local muffler shop.

It will neck down to 2.5 directly behind the 3 inch magnaflow

I can’t buy mandel bent pipes this close to Christmas. I am gonna let them fan up the tips and then when I have the money I’ll get an exhaust kit again. I just bought a quadrajet to replace the Holley. Between it and the adjustable uppers in the rear I am tapped out

Yeah, there's the problem, the magnaflows. Those are not 'quiet' mufflers.

Like I mentioned, you can't make loud mufflers quiet by dropping back to 2.5 tailpipes.

If you call Pypes, you can order just the tailpipes, and have them in 3 days. That would be cheaper than someone bending them for you.

Aren't others running 3" tailpipes on that body? I may not be understanding the problem.

All this noise I’ve been hearing and complaining about is poorly fitted pipe. It’s been hitting the axle tube on one side for one. For two it’s ran in such a way that even if I could get to the shock bolts I’d never get them off. I have no shocks to speak of in the rear right now and I gotta do what I gotta do

If the exhaust noise from the engine is not a problem, maybe just have the shop flatten or move the tailpipes? That would be less money than replacing them with junk.

Can you take a pic of the area in question? I'm curious to see what you're talking about.

I will try to get some pics tomorrow before they start just so you can see and see if they can just flatten it. The engine noise is fine. Exhaust note is perfect. It’s just poorly positioned. The pipe beat the hell out of the shocks on every bump and was even rubbing the axle tube until it self clearanced
