Exactly! Here's the other pic that was supposed to be in the thread above. (Photobucket app sucks!)

Had a buddy visit from Portland and we got the hood on and lined up. Endura is on but the gap on the driver's side is too big at the bottom so I think that means I need to elongate the slot in the bracket some more. Also had him help me remove the bumper so I could get the wiring ran back up.

A previous owner hacked the backs off the hood scoops so I am sourcing some new ones. I also need the back of the hood trim.

Things are probably going to slow down a bit now as summer is in full effect. Temps from 95-100 for the foreseeable future and usually hotter by about 5 degrees in my garage.

Looking good Jeremy. First time I ever noticed your car was a stick car.

Love the rally I's and redlines on the car.
Seriously considering a set of redlines to put on the rally II's on my Aleutian Blue hardtop. The garaged Radial T/A's still have plenty of meat on them, but are about a dozen years old. Looking for a good reason to replace them with redlines.

Well guys, I added another Poncho to the stable - (well, as soon as I pick it up). I went darkside - check out my "Newest Darksider" post in the Lobby.

It has been so hot this month I haven't been able to get anything done on the GTO.

That's a NICE Darksider project Jeremy. They Darksider cars are showing up so frequently lately, maybe the A and F body cars will soon be outnumbered by them.
Would that then make US the Darksiders?...lol

Thanks, I'm pretty excited about it. I was thinking about the black & red last night so much I could not sleep very much. Should be able to pick it up in 2 weeks.

One of the selling points was that they already had all that frame and underbody sandblasted and painted. I hated doing that with a passion.

Of course I will get the GTO on the road first, it won't be totally finished, but that's OK.

I suppose everybody thinks I have been off "playing with my Cat" for 2 months. Not true! I have the inner fenders installed. Man, did that ever screw up my fender to door gaps. Looking forward to redoing that and scratching more paint.

My headlight doors don't close. Peculiar thing is when I disconnect the check valve I would expect to hear some vacuum release but I don't. The can is good. Maybe I have the lines hooked at the switch wrong, or a massive vac leak. One actuator is new, the other a good used one.

I can't get this thing to idle at all. We are going back to square one, starting with pulling the carb off (again) and making sure the float is set right, and that I remembered to install the little check ball. Carb was rebuilt using Cliff's mega kit. Then the distributor. It seemed 100% dead on when I stabbed it in but who knows, I've been wrong before. Maybe some sticky advance weights, (I installed a used GM HEI) or springs gave out. Maybe a new vac advance can is in order, I can only imagine how generous they were with the advance in the mid 70s.

Other than those "minor issues" it is pretty much ready to test drive.

Car now idles. Had a couple issues with the q-jet I rebuilt. Still leaks fuel at the inlet so it is going to need a helicoil installed.

Finally figured out how to make the car start properly with an HEI. The HEI conversion wire only includes the wire to replace from the bulkhead. The two bundled together wires from the starter? (one pink, one yellow or black/yellow stripe) need to be combined with this wire to make the HEI have power in both start and run.

Recently the trace for the gauge power blew in my PCB, not sure what started that. I also found out why my GEN light was always on even with the key off. Voltage regulator. Replaced it with a napa echlin brand which solved the gen light issue but it puts out way too much voltage. (17-18 with some RPMs, 14.4 at idle) so I am going to try the solid state version. I should have just converted to an internally regulated 12SI alternator for as much as I am into this.

Wow! November 2014 since last update.

I haven't done anything on the car since then, either. There is still the short somewhere I need to track down.

I traded my 70 chevelle for a 70 K-20 and have been working on that this summer, for the most part. Just found out the gov-lock is grenaded so that is a bit of a setback. So I think I am going to try and work on the GTO for once.

Truck has a new paint job and custom bumpers, rebuilt 383, and is 4-speed 4x4, factory AC cab. Frame was shortened and an 88-98 step bed put in it. Dana 60 front and GM 14" FF rear.

I got the PCB replaced and so far so good. I have a smaller fuse in there for now. Oil pressure gauge moves a little when the key goes to IGN but nothing when the motor is running, and I know I have oil pressure. Maybe that cheap airtex sending unit is on the fritz already.

I started back up on this project. I tore the gauge cluster back out to send to Pete Serio. I think whatever happened to burn that PCB trace up also burnt up the coils in the gauges. I have a buddy who is a body guy that is going to help me put the finishing touches on this, might not be until this winter though.

Hey Jeremy , glad to see you're still at it. Got a question for you. Awhile back you got a set of Rally I's 15 x 8 and 15 x 7. Trim ring fit look good between the two ? Getting ready to pull the trigger on a set to replace the old 14 x 6's . Thanks

Hey, sorry never saw your post as I haven't done anything to this for a while. I'd say the trim rings don't fit real well and scratch the paint. If I remember I had to bend the tangs down some so they'd fit.

I got my cluster restored by Mr. Serio and it's mostly installed. Glad I kept good updates in this thread so I can remember what all the issues were!

Blew another pcb. Lesson learned: DONT paint your dash and not scrape the paint off the lower dash mount hole as that is the ground touch point. Expensive lesson learned. I now have happy gauges.

Nothing like doing it twice unless it's doing it three times! In the meanwhile, here is a little inspiration for you... Local car for years and I just noticed that it is very similar to yours.

Wow! If mine looks half as good as that I'll be happy.
