I haven't posted for a while...Why? She went Basic Body & Paint, LLC about a month ago. We started looking her over and found some rot in the trunk area...
Well...just because it was a "slow Wednesday" and someone, somehow knew I had some funds tucked away, we ripped her apart to find more things wrong that I had expected...
It is not a probem....I love the experience of working with Clark Gick and learning things along the way. He told me that I will have a whole new appreciation for this 71 LeMans once we are done with her.
I ordered two new complete quarters, complete trunk kit along with new braces, lower trunk to fender patches...
I also removed the paint from the roof and the front fenders to find only surface rust under the pretty "Blu" paint...
One cannot replace experience with perfection. It comes with effort...

Very common spot there, where the inner wheelhouse meets the floor, but technically, that rot starts from the cross brace on the under side.

When I had that area repaired, I had the body shop use some Eastwood heavy duty anti-rust spray, which is very similar to the 3M rocker anti-rust stuff. It's thin, and runs into the seams, etc. It's a 'self-healing' type, it spreads/runs quickly, and isn't real 'waxy'. Hoping I won't see any pop up again, or at least in my lifetime!

http://www.eastwood.com/eastwood-hea...-in-black.html

I also did the Eastwood internal frame coating in all the floor braces, inside cowl areas, rockers, and where the outer wheelhouse meets the quarter.

http://www.eastwood.com/internal-fra...lack-14oz.html

Nice progress! I'm just now getting to the 1/4 and door glass, almost done with the driver's side. Let me know if you need any hard parts, I have leftovers. (I need to update my build thread! Uhg!)

Wow, I thought the car looked pretty clean before you started the body/paint work. Just goes to show ya you never know what's hiding underneath that paint. Good luck and hope it turns out awesome!

Thanks Judge!
After she is done and has her "Purdy Blu" paint, I can with complete confidence tell others that she is a solid 1971 LeMans Sport!..
If I flip this car, someone will be getting exactly what they are paying for....something they can count on and others will stare....

Thanks 455,
I am loving this experience. I did not go this deep on my 68 Camaro. The body and paint were done in 1988 at our local Ivy Tech in Lafayette, Indiana as a class project!...
This DOES give me a whole new appriciation for just what goes into making a car beautiful!...
Thanks for the offer for the parts. I will keep you in mind if I need anything....

While at Basic Body and Paint, we have be tackling the left rear side of Blu BiYu. She looks pretty sad right now, but with some QT and the passion I see in Clark Gick's eyes, this car will be done right!...
Like he tells me, "I ain't scared"....I am having the time of my life working this this man! Thanks Clark for taking this "old man" under your wing and "learnin' me"....
Don't forget what I told you November 2017...."Heck...all she needs is a little TLC and some paint!"

We made some "constructive" progress on Blu BiYu yesterday. Left side...trunk brace, trunk panel, inner/outer wheel well and the rear quarter is in place with a few screws and many clamps...
Note the photo with the quarter/trunk gapping...not too bad for a first...

Love working with Clark Gick....This is definitely not his "first rodeo"....Thanks Buddy!

Looking good. How do the panels fit? I too have aftermarket quarters.

We have been working a couple of days a week on Blu BiYu at Basic Body and Paint. Clark Gick now has the left rear 1/4 in place. It looks outstanding and we can hardly wait to get started on the passenger side....
Clark welding things into their permanent place.
We have everything on the driver's side fit and ready to weld...Clark says, "Okay Kurt, this side you watched...The other side....go for it"...and go for it I did!

Kurt, not sure it's been discussed before. But, your font and text is so colorful and bright.

Looks great and reads well! Pictures as well make it a pretty cool thread to read.

Not sure how it's done?

Well, Thanks Mike! Not much to it....when you are typing your text....look up at the top of the message box. There are different things you can do, like change the font, bold, underline, and to the right of the font sizes, there is a Capital A with the color black underneath...
When done with your text....Highlight the portion you wish to change. Then take your mouse up and click on the B for bold...that's done.
Now click on something you wish to change color......go up and click on the drop-down arrow to the right of the A...choose your color....Done.

Most of all...have fun with it....It must be like the Culinary Cooks....Presentation is #1....
