I was wondering the same thing.I work in an independent shop, and we never see new vehicles in there until they are at least 3 years old, with over 36,000 miles.

Ford's powertrain warranty is only good for 60,000 miles.

A guy that uses his truck can easily put on 50,000+ miles per year.

Ford sold over 15,000 of them in September of 2011 - thats 17 - 18 months ago. Someone that bought one when they were first introduced would only have had to put 3300- 3400 miles on per month to be out of the short Ford powertrain warranty.

If the Ford dealer hasn't been able to fix the problem under warranty, why would you continue to bring it to them and pay dealer shop rates?

If you google "F150 Ecoboost Problems", you will get plenty of results with unsatisfied F150 owners.

Cracked plugs? Condensation in the CAC? PCM reprogram? All "Known" issues.

287K on my '99 Ford Power Stroke 7.3 and no codes ever. Finally sold it because I thought I was starting to live on borrowed time. Power Strokes after that were krap.

Ive seen plenty hit 500K+ plus

However, 6.0s with aftermarket head studs and the egrs fixed are running SOBs at the track and some swear by 'em with those improvements. I'd consider a 6.0 Excursion with low miles in good condition for the family truckster -

REALLY?

It's exceedingly rare that a 7.3 PSD never needed a camshaft position sensor replaced, Ron. They were notoriously failure prone, causing stalling and no-start complaints.

i bought a new f350 king ranch 4 x 4 dually last july and now have 27k on it. i love it. it has not had any problems and i am getting 12.4 mpg towing 25k load and getting almost 17 mpg empty. i have been dissapointed in the 60k warranty which bit me on the 2008 truck that i had at 62k.

Brad,

Once Ford dealt with the injector, head gasket and EGR problems on the 6.0 PowerStrokes, they became pretty decent engines. They're not 7.3s by a long shot, but I would certainly take a 6.0 Ford/IH over the grenade known as the 6.2/6.5 GM diesel.

The 6.2 / 6.5 GM is a debacle that GM will NEVER recover from. At least they're mostly gone now, thank God.

The 6.0 Power Joke, well . . . they'll be haunting diesel techs for another 20 years!

Lloyd,

We had a contract with the DoD to reman the 6.2/6.5s used in the Hummers. Under light loads, the 6.2/6.5 does OK. Start "hammering" it and it starts falling apart starting with the crank breaking between #1/2 rod and #2 main. As long as you use aftermarket studs and GOOD head gaskets, the 6.0 Fords will run fairly well.

My 2007 Duramax LBZs are by far the best light duty pickup trucks I've driven and owned. My '07 GMC crew cab dually is my favorite.

Good info, thanks!

I suppose us taxpayers are stuck with maintaining and rebuilding the GM 6.5 TD for a few more decades, as I'm sure the military Hummers won't be retired anytime soon . . .

Lloyd,

and they're SOB to get to!!! Those and the valve cover sensors are the ones that fail the most. The "AB" HEUI injectors have some reliability problems as well (scored body/plunger assys and intensifier pistons) in high mileage engines.

Our techs actually got pretty good at replacing them, we replaced so many. Then Ford decided they'd start warrantying them and - except for a couple of VERY high-mileage trucks - we were done.

We see so very few diesels any more that we send them away now. Excepting my (now long gone) 2005 2500HD Crew we've never had another Duramax in the bay. Most 7.3 PSDs are gone from our area now, and we can't / won't work on a 6.0, 6.4 or 6.7 PSD. Never had a Cummins darken our doorway either.

Our bays and lifts are undersized for Crew Cab diesels anyway . . .

check out how ford engineers redesigned the hanger bearing on their new trucks. this is a 2009 with 90000kms(55000miles) . not serviceable and not available seperate from ford. local ford dealer wants $1400.00 for a new shaft that only needs a $75.00 hanger bearing. actually the bearing is fine, just the rubber mounting is wrecked. to get the guy on the road for now we welded tabs from the hanger bearing housing to the outer bearing race basically eliminating the rubber from the equasion.

also instead of that sticker on the driveshaft they should have one on the dash. SCRAP IF THIS TRUCK MAKES IT OFF WARRANTY
