Holy crap...this is an old thread. Rashionality? Craig Berkheimer? WD40 works well as an assembly lube, it's all I've ever used to keep the threads from galling.

Wives Tale about a -8 hose being .500 id
Aeroquip hoses are not as ASSUMED for inside diameter and area. A -8 hose is not a .500" inside diameter with a .2 sq in of area. It is about 25% LESS. Actual--------Assumed---------Actual-------Assumed--------Percentage Diameter-----Diameter---------Area-----------Area------------Of Error 0.22------------0.25-------------0.04-----------0.05-------------0.23 0.34------------0.38-------------0.09-----------0.11-------------0.18 0.44------------0.5--------------0.15-----------0.2---------------0.23 0.56------------0.63-------------0.25-----------0.31--------------0.2 0.69------------0.75-------------0.37-----------0.44--------------0.15 0.88-------------1.0-------------0.61-----------0.79--------------0.23 If you want at least a .2 sq inches of area you need to step up to -10 hose. .8 hose has .15 sq in of area. Roughly a 25% smaller area than assumed Tom V.

1) Get an aluminum a/n fitting that matches the small tube id of the part from Summit.
2) Cut off the threads on the male end of the fitting 3) Clamp the fitting in a vice and open up the id to the same od as the part from Summit. 4) Cut off the barb on the summit part and press it into the male fitting and then tig the two parts together. 5) You will now have a properly installed male fitting that you can hook to a female EFI return line that will be safe and handle high pressure. good idea, thanks Tom!!
what about the pipe coming off the gas tank sender on a 65, is that aluminum also? if not how can i make that connection? or maybe i should just drop the tank, plug the old gas sender and weld in some of those fuel cell fittings with a new pickup tube/-8AN lines..im not sure what to do now, lol its for the tripower carbs not the nitrous, my goal is to get rid of all those rubber hoses and install a return line on the tripower. thanks |

Years ago I took the tank sender out of my 64 GTO, used a torch to melt the solder on the main fuel line, used a drift punch to flare/open up the opening to 1/2" tube, and then I resoldered the tank sender.
I also put the fuel level sender on the 1/2" tube in the right spot so it worked again. It worked well enough but if I ever put a high performance tank under my GTO it will have a sump and -12 fittings and I will leave the stock fuel level sender where it is and plug the hose nipple at that location. A proper sump works SO MUCH BETTER vs a modified pick-up. JMO Tom V.

Also, get the vice jaws that hold the hose fittings. It makes it 100000 times easier to assemble the hose ends.
