Never, ever, say you are sure about anything when it comes to how these cars were put together. Nothing was ever clear cut written in stone, and or built that way.

1. Never saw so much pissing over AM rock!

2. According to my "Authentic Restoration Guide" Second Edition by Paul Zazarine and Chuck Roberts, the radio offerings for the '68 and '69 GTOs were identicle.

3. Therefore, it should not matter which year you have when you discuss this subject. 68 and 69 should be the same.

4. My experience over the years tells me that black or chrome could be correct whether or not the radio was an AM only or was an AM/FM or AM/FM stereo. This is because GM made the GTO in several different locations accross the USA.

5. They would have put in what was available in stock at a particular plant. Which means, unless you were alive in 1968 and were going around documenting chrome versus black radio knobs, you must rely upon books, original cars that have not been rat fu_ _ ed, and original owners and their sons and grandsons for your source of correct information.

6. You will find that GM did many things that contradict their own records. That is what makes the resto hobby so much fun. People will argue over the correct angle of a hose clamp and yes, radio knobs.

7. I prefer to examine non-radio knobs.

Thanks for all the info, I ended up buying one with black buttons, I think I remember mine being black when the car was new.
