Your right, the sound deadner is somewhat significant but T-37 recieved a rubber mat instead of lighter weight carpet in Lemans thru GTO. Sound insulation should weight more than the T-37 mat. I'd have to check the 71 assembly manual again since it does list what series cars received it. Underhood insulation is less than a pound. Trim rings where a GT-37 thing in terms of base options.

Trim rings were not avail on GT-37's...
Following are items that are lighter on '71 T-37 vs same year GTO. All add up. -Hood, Endura hood is longer & heavier. Have 3 or 4 versions of each hood & will be weighing versions of each this Fall, just to provide the exact difference. - T-37's standard fiberglass reinforced plastic front header panel & chrome front bumper are lighter than endura bumper, & head light buckets. Have shipped quite a few of these pieces out, & will be weighing complete asms, so the exact difference is noted. Interestingly, the core supports when loaded out with hoodlatch asms & front brace are very similiar in weight. - T-37 bench seat interior. Above AMA spec comparisons mean nothing, as they compare the much heavier fold down arm rest vinyl/comfortweave bench seat avail in LeMans Sports & GTO's with similiar upholstery strato buckets. The T-37 standard bench seat is a LOT lighter in design, esp with paper thin Parody cloth trimmed in vinyl (vs the opt all vinyl construction). Over the last few years, I've hunted down, disassembled, & shipped several of the fold down arm rest variety, all to Buick GS restorers. They're def heavy. -Carpet & floor insulation was std in LeMans, LeMans Sport, & GTO's. T-37's did not come with the heavy tar based floor insulation. 2 piece rubber mat is lighter than carpet & floor insulation combined. Agree, just ACC carpet is lighter than 2 piece rubber floor coverings. -T-37 came with std 7/8" front swaybar or the 1" front bar when Y-96 was opt was clicked off. '70-72 GTO's came with 1 1/8" front bar, 7/8" rear bar, hardware & "boxed" inserts in rear control arms. At least 15 lbs added. -Standard seat belt equipped T-37's & GT-37's did not have a seat belt retractor on passenger side of front bench... a few lbs. -T-37's came with std wiper motor. LeMans, LeMans Sports, & GTO's came with heavier concealed wiper motor. - T-37's did not come std with alum rocker moldings & hardware or bright scalp molding. It was optional. Rocker mldings were standard on LeMans, LeMans Sport, & GTO. Again, a few lbs. -Hardly any weight here, but T-37's came without hood insulation. All LeMans & all endura nosed cars, except those with Ram Air aircleaner received the hood pads. Last edited by 'ol Pinion head; 08-09-2006 at 07:05 PM. |

So you're saying this document put out by Pontiac is wrong because you shipped out a few parts? Maybe it is, but to be fair and for the matter of accuracy, the two cars in question should compared together. Probably impossible to find two HO cars to compare though.

I wanted to comment about T-37's not having sound deadener.Sound deadener was avail on the T-37, as mine dose have it. I also believe the T-37 was a lighter car.

ohc1966lemans, I'd bet the sound deadner is optional. Will have to scour my '71 order forms.
Did your T-37 have factory a/c? tripower, not saying the AMA specs are wrong. Just stating you are comparing, in your above posts a heavier more luxurious bench seat out of a '71 GTO/LeMans Sport, to the very lightweight cheap (taxi cab like) seat used in the 2 door T-37... totally different design. BTW, not just a "few" parts shipped, I've been parting A-bodys for over 20 years. To get exact weight difference, I will this Fall haul across town the nicest pair of '71 GTO buckets I have, along with the GT-37's bench seat to my brothers ex employer. They have a industrial sized digital floor scale that measures to the 1/10th of a lb. Core supports & nose asms will also make the trip. FWIW, both my GT-37 & T-37 came with the parody cloth & vinyl bench interiors. Over the years, have bought up NOS fabric & vinyl for the seats restoration. The seats, themselves are currently out of my cars, bagged on pallet rack at my warehouse. Have lifted & moved them many times as I have organized & reorganized (major battle). Have also removed from my own partcars & from yard cars quite a few of the fold down arm rest version. They are getting tough to find. Buick GS guys over the last few years just seem to be more interested in them than GTO restorers, maybe because more GS's had them than GTO's, & because the Buick guys can get decent repro covers. FWIW, the last two I've pulled came out of '72 2 door Lux LeMans. Anyone needing a fold down arm rest bench for their '70 or '71 GTO's restoration, watch the 2 door '72 Lux Lemans. The seat framework for the seats going back in the T-37 coupe, actually came out of a very clean '72 LeMan coupe I parted in the mid 90's. The front seat was in really nice shape with blue fabric inserts very similiar to that of the blue Parody cloth seats from my GT-37. At one time, I even considered bolting them into the GT-37. Unfortunately, the seats in T-37 coupe had been swapped over to really nice strato buckets along with a hardtop rear seat & plastic rear armrest panels (not correct in a coupe). Both front & rear were upholstered in what I believed were '72 Chevelle repro covers. This was before previous owner bought the coupe in the early 90's. Not that bad looking, but not correct for the car's restoration. |

My T-37 was a two toned car,Green with a painted lime green top.Had body side moldings, and hub caps.Used to be a 350 car w/ fact air.Now has '71 400, I changed it to non air.Im thinking the sound deadener was an option, same as carpet.

UNCLE ... I must strongly disagree. One of the five had some pitting on the inside of the rim and will not impact whether it holds air. The other four had no pitting on them (unless you've got x-ray vision that I don't have.) They looked finished fine to me - but then again I'm not a concours show judge. But for a grand total of under $100.00 I can blast them again, prime them, and finish them to show condition - all five wheels and then I'm into a set of 5 wheels that are considered matching numbers (3 are one date and the other two are another date from within one week) by anyone's standards. And if you think you could get that set on Ebay for any less than $800 - $1,000 just 6 months ago lotsa luck.
The totally rebuilt RAM AIR 3 heads were asking $800.00 which could have been bought for $700.00 Try getting those for that price in the past year. No doubt ... check out ebay / Norwalk / or anywhere else. Prices are coming down ... whether the dealers are willing to admit it or not. |
