John,I know you said you want to keep your hood,but if you ever want to try a Victor and a Dominator on the new combo,let me know.I wont be using it for a while.

Ponjohn, I in no way posted what I did to belttle you, or to piss you off. A lot of unknowing folks here seem to take their engine shops word for gold, with out knowing the rest of the details they need on the so call info they payed good money for, and with out you posting the test pressure it was conducted at I just assume you did not kmow the importance of that detail.

I would like to do it in stages to get the most info possible on what changes produce the most benefit. |

I don't mean to hijack the thread, but I have a rpm intake and 310 KRE heads. I went to the strip again this weekend after switching from 1-5/8" headers to 2" headers and gained nothing. The weather was pretty much the same last year and it was on almost the same day in October last year. So I am thinking my restriction is on the other end of the motor too. I have a stock port matched RPM with a 750 Proform/Holley double pump. Would a victor and a bigger carb set me free???!!!

I just switched to a victor/dominator from a T2/850.I only had it out once so far and it was running really fat and bad air,my 60' was off ,mph picked up a little.I think once I get it dialed in it will pick up,this is my race only Firebird.However in a street strip car I dont think you can beat a RPM or T2,unless you have a 500"+ motor or a .650+ lift cam. I dont think I have enough cam to really take advantage of the intake and head flow.

I will be trying a victor/850 next summer in place of my RPM/850 combo now, i do alot of street driving so we will see how it runs. I would also like to try a TII. I was told that the RPM was limiting the breathing of my motor but who knows i guess. I am thinking the victor will be too much but the TII might be just right. Heck, i might just try them all on a dyno first and then at the track.

I alo switched from Doug's 1 3/4" headers to 2" hedmans and didn't see much difference. But I believe I did gain some MPH. I think the change probably produced a bit more HP but it definately pushed the whole power band up the hill 300-400 rpm. I think the reason I didn't see as much difference as i had thought is I am at 5000+ DA which drops around 18% power off the top. So if I was at sea level and actually making 600 HP, I would have seen the difference more than making 510 here.

I'm going to have a port matched T2 and street dominator for sale,along with a 850 holley that has been tricked out.It is good enough for 10.59 on my firebird.The intakes are port matched to 310 cfm KRE heads.

Dual Planes like the RPM do like big carbs. Partly cause only 2 barrels to feed a runner and larger throttle bore allows mixture to turn into the runners easier due to lower velocity. Think about it the SBC 40 years ago was running a highrise dual plane and the Holley 950 Three barrel carb on typical 302-327. Back then was the hot setup.

Some years ago I flowed a set of edelbrock heads with minimal intake port work that flowed 300 cfm at 28" of water on a SF 1200 bench that was calibrated to be within 1% of Ford's 3 million dollar bench.
http://www.flowsystemsinc.com/index_products.htm Then click on automotive then on Intake and exhaust manifold and cylinder head. That being said, the VICTOR 850 Intake flowed within 1% of the head and the Victor 1050 flowed with-in 2%. The RPM was with-in 3% of the head. 97% times a 300 cfm head is a 297 cfm Intake. A Pretty Good Intake. I also flowed a lot of other heads and intakes over a two day period. The Torquer II flowed about 262 cfm. Tom V.

I went from race demon 750 to a holley 950 ultra on a rpm intake and 250 cfm heads with super sucker carb spacer and picked up .13 in 1/4 and a little over a mile an hour.

Now lets get into the point of this discussion where we enter fuel into the the airstream thru the manifold, as it would be nice to have the correct amount of fuel to match the 297 cfm of the P rpm manifold.
My say is that the TK II with a 1 inch spacer, even saddled with a bit smaller carb will out power the P RPM manifold above 4000 rpm.

Of interest, when I dyno tested various intakes on my old 462cid combo the Torker II intake flopped ! But to be fair it was a borrowed brand new intake that was not port matched to my heads, the other intakes were. It has small ports as cast and I suspect the results show the importance of properly port matching a intake to the heads in use.
Performer RPM intake w/ 1/2" spacer and HP950 carb: 4000 rpm- 423.2 hp 5800 rpm- 580.2 hp Torker II w/ 1/2" spacer and HP950 carb: 4000 rpm- 398.1 hp 5700 rpm- 566.6 hp |

As a footnote Steve how was the Torker vs your Dave Bisshop Holley intake on that motor?
As Steve said the Torker II has some pretty narrow ports. I borrowed Steve's Holley when dynoing my pump gas 455. I also had a Torker II I had to weld the ports taller and spent ALOT of time blending the runners up from the gasket surface, measuring width and height and blending some more. That Torker II and the Dave Bisshop modified Holley intake of Steve's were almost identical dyno numbers. Both had the 3/8" open spacer I can fit under my Shaker. The height of the RPM we weren't going to use it on my car so it wasn't dynoed. One other thing about the Torker II it flowed more even between cylinders than any intake other than the Victor I've checked.
