Well, I guess the person shipping the block took the time to unwrap it, identify it was a SD block and swap it out with a standard Pontiac block they had lying around. Even a crook should have known that lie would not work. As far as a form of payment that would really nail these jerks I dont know besides a postal money order. The cops wont care untill we start paying tax on things we sell to individuals, on ebay, and over the net. Then the gov will pass laws to stop this sort of scamming. Or untill a politician gets ripped of for a chunk of change. I hope it all works out for you.

FWI......
I would also post about this topic over in the "70-73 firebird/trans am" tech forum, under the sub-post, "Super Duty Forum".
Jeff owns an SD trans am and he has exchanged emails with many of those SD owners over there who may know his where abouts.

I recall that at a certain dollar amount, the crime gets some attention.

Knowing you probably paid a fair amount for this block, I would be working the phone to start.

Many states now have internet fraud units.

A friend, who is a member here and in law enforcement has posted before: call the City or County where the guy lives and talk with a Detective.

Perhaps it might shake something loose.

Sorry to hear this.

no way would i be buying the idea that along the shipping route someone knew what the block was and just happened to have a spare block laying around to swap it for. (and i don't mean to indicate you are.) i think it would be very simple to back trace its travels to see who had access to it and for how long just to prove that's an utter bs story. ludicrous situation, just wrong wrong wrong!

It's pretty clear the guy who sold the block is an aspiring scam artist (and not a very good one either!)

If some one was to steal it knowing it's contents you'd think they'd take the time to put something in it's place???...no way they would just take it!

And a clean block in it's place to boot!

The guy's a liar and any judge will see thru that....a child could have come up with a better story..

In the thread below he offers you a 73 standard bore block. According to Wallace racing 485428 could be a 73 455 block. Smell fishy to me.

ya know, all along i had the 'ol "dim bulb" sponge-brain recognition of his nic going on. researching another issue tonight brought me back to all the threads in which myself and others helped NWSD out back around 2004 when he got his SD. the way i read that other thread, (in which the ramair is looking for and SD block) Jeff was offering up a std. bore 73 SD block. If this turns out to be what it obviously is, just sucks all the more, like a brother stabbing another in the back.

Glen, he told me it was a 490132, XD code standard bore block. I have a bill of sale stating it is a 490132, XD code super duty block. Larry, he does live in Klamath Falls. I have filed a report with the Klamath Falls sheriff's dept.

Contacting the Attorney General office did the trick. I got a call out of the blue on Wednesday stating he was ready to settle the matter. He wanted me to ship the block back. I said no way. Well, I actually got my money back today, plus shipping costs, plus extra for my time and aggravation. Let's just say lesson learned. I do want to thank spb350 for selling me a real sd block!
